Allergic to Friendface. Hoping fellow allergy holders & #Twatters decamp here (I was here in 2018! see: https://mastodon.social/@kudra 😅)

Let's decouple our ideas of innate human value from jobs, mmk?

@wscholermann @Seagoon_ my sinuses cleared up when I stopped living in Melbourne most of the time - I still visit very regularly, but I live rurally and the difference has been dramatic. Not tropical, far from it - but I'm originally from Perth, and I developed a few different health issues when I moved to Melbourne. I think it's unfortunately got pretty poor air quality generally compared to many other places in Australia.

@danwritesbooks @CEOofmyhouse56 my tip is: clothes dryer lint! Save it and you guarantee a fast start.

kudra,
@kudra@aus.social avatar

@Reonn @CEOofmyhouse56 crap, what area are you in? I checked the outages list and it was still huge yesterday. I'm in a rural area that gets regular outages, but they are usually resolved within about 12 hours. But the amount of trees down, damaged or basically exploded on the drive out from the city today was... exceptional. I'm not surprised it's taking them quite a while to rectify all the issues.

kudra,
@kudra@aus.social avatar

@Seagoon_ @CEOofmyhouse56 I am new to the chronic pain merry-go-round, but it seems doctors who don't know you well will pretty much assume this by default. It's exhausting. I even had the rural GP who ordered my MRI which showed clearly there was signal behave like there wasn't really anything more he could do. I think he was a bit grumpy that his diagnosis of "likely tennis elbow" was incorrect.

kudra,
@kudra@aus.social avatar

@Seagoon_ @Thornburywitch commiserations, and same, though I did manage to get a 5 hour stretch for the first time in almost 2 weeks before waking about 2am. Herniated discs fucking suck.

Preaching to the choir here, but I think it's really valuable to see services/apps like Flipboard pivoting to open social, in a really visible way.

This is stuff I have been screaming about (and annoying the hell out of most people) for over 15 years. I am finally hopeful that the critical mass has just about been reached, and each pivot that occurs, especially with relatively well known brands that rose up before the monolith walled gardens, I'm a little bit more vindicated. I care so passionately about this, and I really hope to eventually be able to reconnect with many people I've lost from my life because I refused to connect with them on Facebook all those years ago.

Great interview and makes really good points, reminding us why it's so important to fight for this. Not as keen about the bit about advertising, which obviously is part of the revenue model for many apps these days, but they focus on the need to be respectful of users, instead of that is so prevalent currently.

A more creative take on the sad repeated failures of , as I've said often I'm not against (green) hydrogen but so far it seems far too many oil industry shills, and only getting worse. The only potential use that looks promising is a proprietary solid hydrogen technology from Norway, and it's not going to be used in cars, it's sensible for home electricity / space heating because of the waste heat created.

@melbaboutown @bot001 I can't offer anything really except empathy, I've only just experienced extended intense pain from a herniated disc, and even after 2 weeks I was thinking, if this doesn't get better, I don't know how I'm going to keep going, it's absolutely terrifying to consider years like that. I'm fortunate to seem to be one of the 90% that responds to conservative management but I'm on long term pain meds, and I'm really not sure if the injury is healing by itself or the pain is being masked by the meds.

One thing from your story though, I've read that an emerging treatment for a range of gastro issues is gut microbiome transplant, might be worth looking into if you haven't already as it's probably not going to be recommended by many gastroenterologists.

... I wonder if that means they'll refund what we've paid already? 🤔

@AllNewTypeFace @just_kitten I think this is really only happening on the Albury line - other services have likely seen a decent increase in patronage, but it's likely going to make rural services more viable in terms of numbers, and on the really popular routes hopefully a real increase in services. In 2019 I took rural PT to a bunch of different places in Victoria, East West and North from Melbourne, and only North was really even half way busy.

@kudra@aus.social avatar

ok, I didn't believe this was real until I went to confirm.

Seriously people?

I'm going to stop following people here who actively promote bluesky.

Why on earth would you want to go there??? This is just beyond parody. But it's... real 🤯

@wscholermann @bot001 well given the origins were for rich people (and the children of rich people) to do something with their spare time, it explains why quite a few degrees aren't much use. But they do help you understand why things are the way they are. Just tough titties if you don't have independent wealth to sustain you after you work this out.

@StudChud @calhoon2005 I'm going to bet it was a Starlink satellite, based on this:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.yahoo.com/amphtml/space-news-starlink-satellites-orbit-pink-moon-richard-branson-nasa-165913306.html

Might be able to verify if people using Starlink lost internet...

@Eagle @TinyBreak and if you don't have it yet get a standing script for Ondasetron from your GP. Saved my ass 3 times in the first 12 months of my daughters many illnesses (yes, pretty much everything came from childcare, possibly one from swimming class) the one time I didn't have it with me was miserable and the first time I had worshipped at the porcelain throne since pregnancy (which, fortunately, I only had to once... yes I was very lucky)..

kudra,

@just_kitten @Outlier1031 agree. get your leaving plan together asap, that is a shitty thing to do, I'd talk to Fair Work about it asap, that kind of action is the job of a FULL TIME manager, not a casual staff member, regardless of your role. Get something about the duties you have in writing if possible.

kudra,

@Goddess_Amaterasu @bot001 yes, but not directly, I ordered from eBay and then got the order value refunded as they didn't post anywhere on the auction that they were drop shipping. Hot tip 🔥: I do that every time someone does that from Amazon - I don't give Bezos money if I can help it, and anyone not being clear on eBay they are drop shipping from a large competitor seller are breaking the TOS and deserve to get penalised.

@CEOofmyhouse56 @TinyBreak and real time AQI monitoring doesn't seem to have picked up anything?

kudra,

@CEOofmyhouse56 yup, confirmed in VicEmergency app, but warning seems pretty minimal. From that angle it just looks like normal storm clouds.

@bull @StudChud you can also purchase international e-sims that don't even need to arrive physically, which I've found much better, though of course you need a phone which supports them, which is a limited range, even of new release phones.
