Cyrillic readers, do these capital letters of Inter look good? Are there any of these which really should be localized? (For example, Bulgarian has a lot or variation compared to Russian, from what I've gathered.)

(Comparing to Helvetica since it's so common to see)

kytta,
@kytta@fosstodon.org avatar

@rsms hi, I'm Russian.

When it comes to Russian, I find the capitals of К and Ж quite weird, as I am not used to them having such present horizontal bars; it's not wrong, though.

I can't really speak on behalf of other languages, sadly. However, I want to point out that the Serbian Dje (Ђ) seems to have its "tail" descend under the baseline; is that a common thing to do? All I've seen were the versions where it sits atop the baseline (e.g. Helvetica)

    @ru @kev I'd not trust CleanMyMac. If you go on the Apple Community forums, the half of people's issues were caused by it. It often removes stuff it was not supposed to remove. I'd never go further than just cleaning cache

    If you want a good free app for this, I use OnyX. It's way more complicated, but it is clear about the modifications it's doing.

    The best thing a website can do? Offer for two-factor authentication.

    The worst thing a website can do? Do so as if Authenticator is the only TOTP app on the market 😒

    kytta,
    @kytta@fosstodon.org avatar

    @PamJo Time-based one-time password (TOTP) is a one-time password that uses the current time as a source of uniqueness. As a consequence, it is only valid for a short time (usually 30 seconds)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_one-time_password

    kytta,
    @kytta@fosstodon.org avatar

    If you haven't heard this yet: Authenticator offers a backup function for the one-time codes (which is okay in my book, especially for the less tech-savvy people who may not realize that they can lose their account). However, the backup is done in Google's own cloud, and the data gets sent WITHOUT ENCRYPTION.

    kytta,
    @kytta@fosstodon.org avatar

    @teezeh what exactly is not true? Google claims that the secrets are encrypted in-transit (which I'm not sure about, as the original tweet shows decoded raw data), and it's overall true that there is no E2EE present, which kinda proves the message of my post?

    I am still on Twitter from time to time: not all people I follow have switched to Fedi. It’s a shame seeing the website I once loved become so bad.

    Elon keeps talking about ‘freedom of reach’, but it’s not even close. Under any tweet, the top replies are all Blue subscribers who support Elon. The conversation becomes one-sided. Lots of crypto bros and alt-rights there, too.

    If still works, and you read this post on Twitter: Please leave this dumpster fire of a platform.

    @birnim I propose Waitangi Syndrome, as it’s the closest city to Stockholm's antipodal point :D

    Jokes aside, I understand the point you’re making. To be fair, I just want to draw people’s attention to what Twitter becomes. If they’re still comfortable using it, I’ll keep following them on there.

    At my job, I was asked to set up a simple server for hosting various web services. I was contemplating about a Linux distro and I think I have decided to go with :coreos:

    I've been playing with it all day, and it's so damn cool! It's configured with a YAML file, which can be re-applied if you borked the system. Re-application means re-install, but it's very quick, and it persists user data 🔥

    The documentation is lacking, though. Probably going to write a blog post about my journey…

    I was thinking of doing stuff with , but the built-in provisioning without any Ansible and/or hard-to-write Shell scripts won me for this. After all, it's something that should be managed by other people, and not all of them would be familiar with Alpine's minimalism.

    kytta,
    @kytta@fosstodon.org avatar

    @johnbessa if the server breaks or we need to redeploy it, I want an easy way to do so. With CoreOS, it's just a single Butane config, which is easy to write and read. For Alpine, I'd have to preseed the setup-alpine answers, and then write another shell script for Post-Setup, etc., etc... Another alternative is Ansible, which is IMO harder to write and comprehend than Butane/Ignition, and one needs to install it.

    So, with CoreOS, provisioning includes one step, but with Alpine, it's multiple.

And yet, I still fail to see this technology become a meaningful, if at all, part of my and others' lifes. Yes, the AI models of today are impressive beyond belief, but the stuff they generate is still too imperfect for me to use them.

    kytta,

    Yes, I am sceptical, and I may be wrong. But for now, I am not worried about the AI taking all our jobs away from us, but rather about the bulls**t it spits out that other believe 🙄

    Since the release of , I have been trying to feed it questions that I have in my day-to-day college and work life. Amongst hundreds of prompts, it managed to help me once.

    GitHub is better for coding, but it's only good for writing repetitive code after one has written the first line of it, and even then is it imperfect. Most of the time it is just plain irritating, so I keep it turned off.
