My different take on

Not all things are meant to last forever. Their impact was HUGE to developer space. It made programming so much easier and the model worked for over a decade plus! An incredible place to go learn and find answers when you ran into some most ridiculous problems at work.

Now, their traffic has been dying. They didn't jump to AI, they tried to resist it. But developers left them, and have been leaving them. What are they supposed to do? lay down and die?

mpjgregoire, to politics
@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca avatar

It's always interesting when someone whose politics you think you know supports something unexpected: the NRA member who opposes capital punishment, the socialist who favours free trade, the pro-life feminist. How often are beliefs only found in a set because of a historical coalition, not any deeper principle? Do you hold any beliefs at variance with your political in-group?

laimis,

@mpjgregoire I think I lean conservative and in US often sided with republicans. But I am pro choice, and being an immigrant, don't consider immigration as the root of all evil. Trump arrival made supporting republicans impossible...

Boeing Starliner will not launch before Friday, May 10, and it may push into next week. The issue is a valve that controls liquid oxygen pressure on the upper stage of the rocket. It was humming/oscillating, and they need to examine it to see if it needs to be replaced.

If it doesn't, launch will be no earlier than Friday. If it does need to be replaced (which means the rocket needs to be rolled back), we're likely looking at launch dates into next week.

laimis,
@laimis@mstdn.social avatar

@skrishna have you ever talked or heard anything about the astronauts that got spacex selection vs ones that got starliner? I remember when both projects had that initial conference/announcement and all crews were excited to go. Did anyone from Boeing assignment ever get to switch to spacex ride?

just ran into this youtube channel the other day that is so ridiculous: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRIQM-CUkxVazVPv980YZsw/videos

The thumbnails, the videos, DOOM and GLOOM, he has been dooming for YEARS, 5 to be exact.

I saw one from two years ago where he was saying "prepare to go hungry", and similar nonsense.

I just don't get it how people get to this insane level. But I guess it makes some money for him? I don't know enough about youtube monetization to know for sure

It was really sad to leave Cabo, we had a blast for sure. Met some cool people, saw some cool things, relaxed a ton.

Whenever I travel now I am almost amazed how connected and easy everything is. Anything you want, anywhere you want it, just make sure you have a wallet with you.

Anywho, back at it now. It will be good to dive into the markets and some code when kids go back to school on Monday.

Hi all! I'm still in a newsletter subscription push mode -- with the demise of the bird app, it's gotten really hard to get the word out about projects like this that don't have an internal algorithm to help people find it.

mike, to Israel
@mike@thecanadian.social avatar
  1. The Israeli strike on Iran is a blatent disregard for stability in the region and extreme in its recklessness. Benjamin Netanyahu is now the most dangerous rogue leader on the planet.
    We all know the Iranian missile attack was a paper tiger co-ordinated with the US to put an end to the escalation. The fact that Israel has now disregarded the gesture and chosen to escalate further puts us squarely in an escalation spiral.
laimis,
@laimis@mstdn.social avatar

@mike what if Iran's last attack was all it could do? I bet you that's what Israel's thinking is. In their thinking, Iran is hiding behind supplying terrorist russia and various militias in the region but are not capable of much else. They do best hiding behind other groups, e.g Syrian army, Hezbolah, Houti's, Afghanis, Al Qaeda, Iraqis. And Israel is not playing their games. That's my take. Also not much under our control. Let's see what happens. Take care of your health, all will be OK!

laimis,
@laimis@mstdn.social avatar

@mike yeah, so israel knows iran the best, and it thinks they can't do jack shit besides terrorizing through their proxies. And man, if you really believe that Iran's previous response was brokered by the US, we won't find much to talk about 😀

So I had a crazy idea... I want to try the "Pay What You Want" thing again when selling art, but offer people who can't decide on an amount a chance to "spin the wheel" and then decide if they want to pay the amount they spin.

It would be between $5 and $35 or something.

Is that too crazy or could it work?

I could always let them decide to walk away and not go through with the sale or something.

laimis,
@laimis@mstdn.social avatar

@rasterweb make it so that it collects the credit card info and all the stuff ready to charge, and THEN they spin the wheel :) add some juice to it!

I have been using the latest premium claude model Opus for a several weeks now, and it's blowing my mind pretty much daily.

It's so good that I fear I will become a non-functioning coder without it in a few months. I don't even bother starting to code without claude window open.

Scary. A little bit. But I think our code monkey days of banging on a keyboard are behind us.

Do you have anything special setup as your default new browser window URL? What is it?

I've been getting a huge amount of value out of having my daily private GitHub issues thread (effectively a scratchpad notebook and daily todo list) as my default for new Firefox windows

laimis,
@laimis@mstdn.social avatar

@simon booo, just tried this and failed at github pages part. Github requires a paid plan to have your private repos have github pages. Only public repos get pages under free plan it seems.
