Re last: Please please please, don't use ! We blind people call it HateCaptcha, and it's for a reason. Their accessibility so-called innovative technology is simply broken and doesn't work reliably. You can't imagine how much time I spent fighting with this so-called accessibility cookie. Please don't use it, for goodness sake.

today I've heard for the first time about the open-source screen reader project for written in . Unfortunately only Readme has an English version, all other documents and code comments are in chinese, but the project seems very promising. Use Google Translate or another translator if you, like me, don't speak Chinese. https://gitcode.net/mzdk100/rigela

It seems, I've already asked it on Mastodon, but now I really need the answer, if it exists. Does anybody know if there is some kind of a #Braille standard for #Latin vowels with macrons? For more context: In some texts, especially for learners, long vowels in Latin are marked with a macron, i.e., a horizontal line above the vowel. Is there any convention about how to show them in Braille? Thanks! #Blind #Help

If you need to use at work and you struggle like me because its editor is not accessible for users (and they removed the source code editor and don’t want to bring it back), but you still want to create fancy wiki pages without bothering your colleagues and begging them for help, I have a lifehacky solution:

  1. Open your favorite editor, mine is .
  2. Write your wiki page in plain HTML. I mean, with tags and everything.
  3. Save it as an HTML file.
  4. Open it in a browser.
  5. Select all and copy the whole thing. Note to fellow users: Make sure you have "Copy full content" set in Quick Settings (JAWSKey+V).
  6. Paste your page in the Confluence editor. You may check that the formatting is there by skimming through, it should read headings, lists and so on, akin to how it does it in Microsoft Word.
  7. Enjoy and make your colleagues enjoy too!
P.S. Atlassian products are still a piece of brown substance accessibility-wise, and it’s not chocolate, as far from that as you can imagine.

A quick note to everyone: We, I mean most blindies and some sighted people with us, migrated from quite long ago, but now that dude really put most people off by his stupid limitations, and many people start migrating from Twitter just now. For instance, yesterday I saw a huge number of new Ukrainian-and Russian-speaking people joining .
That said, I just want to remind you: be welcoming, have patience, explain everything to new people, they are not used to our way of setting things up, posting, sharing and conversing. Help them to make the their home as it's home for us.
, be patient to your newbies. Don't let them break the rules and of course remind about Alt text for images, but for the time being be a bit milder and less strict if you see a person means no evil when doing something wrong.
And to you, newbies, a very warm welcome!

My first serious feature for #TweeseCake landed in the master branch today. There are places for improvement, but still it's a step forward, I'm far more familiar with the code and with Mastodon protocol now. #Development @app

I keep saying I'm immensely grateful to developers for separating likes and bookmarks and for allowing us to access those via API in third-party clients. I like to scroll the timeline, to add interesting articles to bookmarks and then look at them in the evenings.

Yesterday I deactivated my Twitter account for English content. After requesting the archive for the main account, I received everything only from 2014 to 2023, although I've been there since 2009. Thinking of deactivating all accounts there, as their policy is disgusting and I deeply loathe what the good-for-nothing owner is making of the product.

Today's : If you accidentally closed a tab in (or, I believe, in all -driven browsers, not tested though) and you want to reopen it, Ctrl+Shift+T is your keystroke. It can reopen not only the last closed tab, but other tabs you closed before, it works as a multi-level undo functionality.

Re last: it's again going to cause a holy war, I guess, but I'm still not convinced you can be proud of being deprived of some sense. You can be proud that, in spite of it, you live a full life, you achieve something, you are successful, but it's in spite of it, not thanks to it.
Back in a Mosen at Large episode I heard a quote from a deaf community representatives; "We love our silence". That instantly caused a burst of emotions in me.
How in the world can you "love" the silence if you've never heard a sound? You've never heard majestic sound of a pipe organ in a large French church; you've never heard a young woman singing a lullaby to her baby; you've never heard the sounds of a morning forest waking up; you've never heard frightening roar of a mighty waterfall; you've never heard a man crying and laughing at the same time when he learned he became a father; you've never heard a newborn kitten calling her mother! I can continue for a very long time, sounds are my world!
The same goes for vision: I've never seen the Sun rising in a mountain sky; I've never seen beautiful paintings of famous artists; I've never seen vast wheat fields in my country; I've never seen my wife's face!
How can I be proud of it? How can anyone be?

Dear Masto people, I need your help. I need a pair of wired headphones that would comfortably sit on my head and have this function to listen to the outer world, I don't remember its name: when you switch it on, built-in mics allow you to hear what's going on outside. Any ideas, does that exist not in Bluetooth form-factor? USB is OK, I need it for my PC. Thanks!

Hey, YouTube. If I tell you I’m not interested in shorts, then I mean I’m not interested. Don’t show me them again. Ever. I mean never when I tell you I don’t care. I have never cared about something less in my entire life

@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@weirdwriter @Kaliah I used a suggestion from an article where they provided filters for UBlock Origin which I use for ad blocking. Now I don't have anything related to shorts on YouTube pages.

If you use #Authy for 2-factor authentication, please be aware that since March 19th (I might be off for a couple days though) the desktop apps will be discontinued. So basically they force you to use mobile apps or nothing. I don't know about you, but for me it's totally unacceptable behavior. I tried the desktop app and didn't like it (because it's basically a web version wrapped in an executable), but I know people who use them namely because they have a desktop app. If I were you, I would migrate to something else just because it's not how good business is done.
Support article about it on their website: https://support.authy.com/hc/articles/17592416719003 (thanks @twynn for the link!)
