When you write longhand, you write slower than typing. Because it takes longer, you spend more time with what you’re writing. When you spend more time with what you’re writing, you remember and learn more. Typing shortcuts memory by shortcutting time.

@SergKoren I wholeheartedly agree and point that out in the "Where's the Evidence?" https://mgblog.org/2024/03/07/learning-something-anew.html I am now taking notes by hand and I find myself remembering more stuff from what I take notes on, and being able to apply it and recall it in conversation. That's a BIG benefit for me. It's also kinda ironic given my role as an edtech advocate who switched from writing cursive to typing early on in life, only to return after 30 years. 🙂

Not surprised that the wise @molly0xfff is one of the people taking the lead in moving away from Substack.

She also made one of the best choices in my mind to go for an independent home, self-hosting Ghost. And managed to do it with minimum impact for existing subscribers.

I do know this is not for everyone, but also know that you don’t necessarily need a VPS to host Ghost, there is managed hosting available – and many more options than the quite expensive official one.

So I just got a message from a person to which I sold my old iPhone 13 to. They informed me that even though I had done a factory reset on the phone they was still, by default, logged into my Spotify account. How strange is that!? 😲 I immediately went into my account and logged out of every device - but I feel that should happen automatically when resetting a device! 🤯

    @phillipdewet That is a lot of usage across different groups of folks! In education, where I see it most often used, I occasionally run into city and state government uses. Otherwise, folks rely on Zoom or Meet. I guess it doesn't matter all that much. I dislike having to install the Teams app on my computer because it comes with so much baggage. But browser extensions are working great now, too.

    @JMMontpelier @academicchatter According to Florida history books, Freeman went on to build a successful career as a waiter in Washington area restaurants. Reports of his unsuccessful bid as a restaurateur have not yet found their way into the records consulted by Florida legislators. 😞
