having this assembled in a big block object makes it SO much easier to attach holy crow

screwed down about bit less than a cm

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

definitely no need for the bungie cord here

may need to thin the lower pad a bit if anything

let’s see about the noise now

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

SURPRISE IT’S LOUDER

Because there’s more weight on the wheel now. The new pad (white)makes it too tall so it’s pushing unto the cargo carrier bed.

@pokeypoke yis ^_^

YEP still loud but again much quieter, like before.

Yes, similar effect to the bread I’m kind of emulating. I’m very happy with this.

Also it seems to be holding up better than my standard baguette, I suspect because of the olive oil.

the already good crust really becomes an entity when toasted like this and i love that

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@allanb I think so. So does @annathepiper which is nice.

I’m now convinced that I was correct in thinking that the bread that inspired this one used dried spinach flakes. It really works here IMO.

Gonna have to do it again and actually measure how much spinach went in this time (lol)

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

(my current measurement was “go down to Albertsons and grab one bundle of fresh off the produce rack and dry all of it.” it was two rounds in my dehydrator.)

(and that also was for one baguette)

one note on the map that I did think about: the lowest-grade red and green lines are distinguishable in black and white. the red lines use dashes, the green are dots with narrower spacing between.

the legend in this version didn’t make that super clear but I’ve revised the source to fix that.

Also I did some test prints over the weekend, and the green lines print fine. Even at lowered resolution (to fit on 11x17" paper for example) they're distinct from red dash sharerow markers.

NPR today:

"Like to bike? Your knees will thank you and you may live longer, too

New research shows lifelong bikers have healthier knees, less pain and a longer lifespan, compared to people who've never biked. This adds to the evidence that cycling promotes healthy aging."

American railroads are pissed off that the gummint wants to shut down coal production and use. That's because the railroads haul LOTSA coal. They are scared of going out of business. But HEY, Railroads! Why not haul passengers instead? There's lotsa demand and you'll have lotsa unused right-of-way and infrastructure and institutional knowledge. Sounds good to me!

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@mralancooper Passenger service historically never was the big moneymaker. Amongst the several reasons for Amtrak, even, was to relieve certain railroads of old passenger-carrying obligations which had come with their land grants in the 19th century.

All this has to change, of course. But it's never been anything like the same degree of profitability, so there are a lot of reasons they prefer cargo above all else. Particularly in bulk.

@depereo They’re really nice if you make baguettes a lot. Not very expensive either - it’s still just sheet metal, and it only needs one metal bending step at the factory.
