I wasn't entirely sold on Kidd as a coach as recently as the start of the playoffs but in addition to holding the respect of his players - including Kyrie - he's done a nice job. I don't have a single critique really. They play smart, they lean into advantages, they get the most out of their role players. Good job by him.

@NateFederman yeah that's why I can't really get behind him or the team, that and the fact that even after his pretty evident vibe shift Kyrie still carries a stench of antisemitism I can't and won't forget.

I'm not saying Kidd is a plus coach; I don't think there are many of those. But he's not a minus, and I was wrong about that.

I do think by far his most important success characteristic is that Kyrie likes him.

@Rosey @caravan seems pretty even overall assuming KP is good to go, so I give the edge in that matchup to the Mavs based on the "best player in the series wins" tie breaker but really the only outcome that would shock me is a sweep either way. No one can stop Luka but at least Boston has a platoon of the right size guys to get in his way plus the best defensive back court to tag team on Kyrie. But Dallas should be able to defend Boston's top guys too. Could really come down to nuances.

The people to listen to are the ones who speak with nuance. Who admit they don't know. Who list possible outcomes and the things that make them more or less likely. People who approach events with humility and an obvious understanding of their own limited knowledge. Find as many of those people as you can and sift what they have to offer. It lacks the comfort of fake certainty but it has the benefit of not being manipulative bullshit

i have been a paid pro customer of otter.ai for 5+ years, the deadcast would not be possible without it, & i am beyond miffed at their account changes.

my "pro" plan previously allowed for 1,200 minutes of transcription per month, which i never used. but now i am limited to 1,200 minutes over 10 files. in a typical month, i upload 40-50 (or more) much shorter files from different sources.

my entire working library of audio is in there, so feeling trapped.

@danblondell @exchgr extremely well said. My objection to the abstract arguments is based in my understanding of complexity studies and the related new perspectives on causality. I'm semi convinced in an Occam's Razor fashion that downward causation is real in some sense, perhaps mediated by the generation of higher level constraints on lower level degrees of freedom. But it's a bleeding edge field, hard to parse, and no one has any idea what "consciousness" is or isn't anyway, so 🤷
