Who's up for driving on this road? Should be opening soon ;)
(Honestly, given how long thick lava takes to solidify completely, due to how well the crust insulates it, I'm not even sure that it's solid all the way through)
This eruption has now continued longer than the other two, and flow rates remain similar to yesterday, with continued lava fountaining. The current south tongue remains static 200m from Suðurstrandarvegur, but lava continues to flow southward.
Though the talk is about how much the eruption has "slowed", at about 20 cubic metres per second, it's still no slouch, and hasn't declined much today.
Right now most of the accumulation however is near the vents.
As an aside: In Icelandic, lava is "hraun" (pronounced HROYN). Being so common here, it's common in place names (for example, part of Reykjavík is "Hraunbær" - "Lava Town") and even candy. Used as a verb, "hrauna yfir" (lit. "lava-over") means "to chew someone out, harshly dig into them".
Bluesky has announced that today they have started with federation, allowing anyone to host their own data on the #bluesky network.
In a blog post they announced that anyone can now host their own PDS, framing it as a way to control your own data, and also explaining how it differs from Mastodon.
Bluesky describes it as an 'early access of federation for self-hosters'.
@hankg@fediversereport I've never understood why people here constantly damned them over not being open for federation yet, as though you can just magick finished code into existence.
For the last time, Jack did not invent Bluesky, he doesn't own it, he doesn't have control over it, he doesn't run it, and he's not even active over there, after finding out that most people there hate him.
It's NOSTR that's the pro-crypto network. The bluesky developers have been very adamant against incorporating web3/crypto.
Nothing was remotely "made in secret". ATProto has been open for a very long time
@bodomenke VW's CEO, Blume, replaced Deiss. Deiss was a good guy and really understood EVs, and really pushed to adapt the country for the future, which ticked off the old guard. Hence, Blume, who immediately started pushing for more combustion cars :Þ
I don't know much about BYD's Wang Chuanfu.
Location is a tricky. Any major automaker has factories all over the planet. But if you're in Germany, your car won't come from any arbitrary factory. For example, Tesla's would come from Grünheide.
@bodomenke Yeah, I've driven a Tesla for nearly four years (just had my first inspection, no problems). The vehicle's been great. But the autonomy is hype. Autopilot is just an ADAS. A good ADAS, but still just an assist. Automakers will hit full autonomy some day, but it's not happening any time soon.
If you can be bothered, tag me once you've test driven them all: it'd be nice to know how the current offerings compare, as I haven't been on the market in a good while. :)
Cue all the people portraying #Navalny as a liberal crusader for progressive values in 3, 2, 1...
(He's a far-right ultranationalist pro-imperialism activist and has only moderately softened his stances in recent years to attract more sympathy from the west)
@isagalaev He had no shortage of opportunities in interviews to express regret of his horrible past statements and actions, and never took them. The only one I've seen him back away from was calling Georgians "rodents" when supporting the Russian invasion of Georgia
I only see two possibilities:
One, he actually changed, but found his ultranational past to be too convenient & didn't want to lose former compatriots.
CEO Elon Musk first unveiled the electric pickup model back in 2019, claiming that its "ultra-hard stainless steel" body and "transparent metal" glass were "literally bulletproof."
What I find interesting is that companies like #Tesla (that are glorified hardware && software companies) or "smart" home appliances suppliers like Bosch or LG do not have a dedicated official portal to submit bug reports or feature requests.
In this type of instances, the user have bought the hardware, and will get "free" support.
Basically the hardware is loaded with sensors and with better software the user can have a better quality of life, but there is no way to communicate those!
