Are there any anime that you know are trash but can't help liking? Like, sure it's trash, but it's my kind of trash! A lot of fantasy and isekai are like that for me.

My first distro, if we mean *nix systems in general, was Solaris back in undergrad. It was cool and all, but really just introduced me to the idea that there was more than Windows and Mac out there.

But many years later, I tried Linux Mint (sometime around Olivia, IIRC). That caught my attention—it made a system that Windows slogged on go much faster. First I used MATE, then Cinnamon, then XFCE. And when I found myself hankering for more efficiency than Mint XFCE could provide, I dove into Arch Linux, and that was when the addiction proved permanent.

So, um, is it just me, or are a lot of large tech companies laying off tons of employees? I don't think it's all about "AI taking over jobs". Is the tech sector facing some problems these days?

Something I've noticed among my students is a lack of understanding of computer concepts, even pretty basic ones (cut and paste, file folders, etc) and slightly advanced ones that I still think most people would find helpful to know (like basic RegEx's or finding info beyond a search engine). So I'm cobbling together my own course and testing it on my kids (from grade school to high school).

Class 1: basic hardware, how it works
Class 2: types of software (BIOS, OS, apps, drivers), installing Raspberry Pi OS
Class 3: beginning install of Arch Linux; file systems and disk formats and partitions

So far so good!

I have almost convinced my oldest offspring to start a social media account called "Here's Your Mustache." Whenever some political or corporate leader does something dastardly online (like, say, poopooing climate concerns or mocking minorities), the account would reply with a picture of a thin and villainous mustache. Just so, you know, everyone is clear on the role said leader is playing.

are there any adblocks for twitch that don't run the risk of getting the "your browser is not supported" thing? Last time twitch detected I was using ttv lol pro i got fucked and needed to completely reinstall firefox to get it working again and I'd like to avoid that but I hate twitch ads

@pixel uMatrix isn't exactly an ad blocker, but I use it to get around ads and the annoying "disable your ad blocker" popups. Haven't used it with Twitch though.

I'm really enjoying Villainess Level 99, but in ep 2 first they say "the only way to level up is by killing monsters" and then 5 minutes later "so and so only reached level 10 because he practiced with his sword every day." Maybe that practice involved killing monsters, but there are lots of other ways to practice, and it comes off sounding like a continuity error.

@Thenerdyverseofmadness Great! That's how I play it too. Yeah, Hoyoverse really sets the bar high for gacha games. There's hardly any power creep in Genshin too, so early characters are just as viable as the newest ones. Heck my preferred healer is still Barbara.

@Thenerdyverseofmadness Statues heal you. Remember to level up your character and weapons, and put on artifacts (but you don't need to level these up right now probably). Collect everything. Giving anemoculi to the statues will boost your stamina, letting you climb and swim longer.

Get to adventure rank 16 to unlock coop so senior players can help you if you want it. Don't rush to increase your world level before you're ready to fight tougher monsters everywhere. And don't spend primogems on anything except the rotating banner (not the standard banner, not the weapon banner unless you're going to spend money, and not for recharging resin).
