spot the difference in reporting in USA and British media … The real story is not what Israel said it was doing when bombing , again, but what had actually happened. Even if you condone extrajudicial killings and believe Israel has the ability to target suspects precisely, killing nine civilians in the process shows it can’t. That’s sounds a lot like a https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/02/02/israel-collective-punishment-against-palestinians

That‘s the one I wanted to do for a long time. Today felt just right to take on the 18K challenge.

Have a good Sunday evening!

@louis nice 👍 I used to regularly do 10k along lake Geneva when I lived there. Swiss lakes are possibly the best place to jog along. Now I live on the coast in southern Europe and just can’t stand it because it’s so full of people… but I’m inspired to resume …

kill all modifier keys ... "This experiment was partly motivated by Macbook keyboards which do not have a right ctrl key. Being a touch-typist myself, I found it inconvenient to type key combinations like C-x, C-a, C-w, C-s, etc. where both the modifier key and the modified key need to be pressed with the left hand fingers. I am not particularly fond of remapping caps lock to behave like ctrl because that still suffers from the problem that key combinations like C-x, C-a require pressing both the modifier key and the modified key with the left hand fingers. I know many people remap both their caps lock and enter to behave like ctrl modifier key. While I think that is a fine solution, I was not willing to put up with the work required to make that work seamlessly across all the various operating systems I work on."

@dekkzz76 @louis I was going to say that I didn’t like the original either :) though I do agree it was a new fresh concept, the pseudo unscripted style and cringe inducing dialogues etc, which got tired very quickly imho… thing is its offsprings are everywhere …

I don’t know if Sohrab Behdani’s screencast is the first related in or just the first one I’ve come across, but what a lovely surprise … I speak a little bit of Farsi but not enough to be able to understand everything. Regardless, thanks @sachac for showing how universal the Emacs ecosystem is https://yewtu.be/watch?v=h0oWdOrjjHQ

Interesting post about social media in general, but also appreciated the take on the landing or onboarding experience into … which is very different to what tech journalists will have you believe is the “biggest problem” with Mastodon … “My experience using Mastodon got off to a good start. Before registering, users are shown a list of ’servers’ they can join. I am usually reluctant to commit to signing up to then be able to explore a service. I prefer assurance, almost a promise of a worthwhile experience before I cede any personal information. This opportunity to browse the various servers available encourages me to commit by piquing my interest. I select defcon.social, a network for people interested in the intersection of technology and society.” https://codesign.jiscinvolve.org/wp/2023/04/can-the-fediverse-reconcile-me-with-social-media/

@histodons came across something called the "Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis", yet another pro-Israel organization engaging in propaganda online, using the same tactics deployed on the Hebrew @wikipedia (training editors who join the site and then recruited to vote to kill or promote articles according to their agenda).

Of some interest is this new hit-piece on the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini (head of the Palestinian national movement in during the British occupation of Palestine, who, obviously, objected the Zionist movement take over of his homeland). He's been the Jewish right's favorite target for years, and as of late also the main reason for the happening. Following the spread of this nonsense, Dan Michman () published this: https://www.yadvashem.org/blog/adhering-to-the-historical-truth-about-the-mufti-during-the-holocaust.html.

As for the so-called "CAMERA", which accuses everyone and everything of anti-Semitism but fails to notice its own , see this https://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/06/opinion/06iht-edbeam.1.12610693.html

@histodons “Official documents show that systematically bribed top officials of the murderous dictatorship in in order to obtain their diplomatic support” … the pressure on Liberia actually dates all the way back to the period before the United Nations vote on the Partition Plan for Palestine (resolution 181 II) on 29 November 1947, which required a super majority. Jewish agency representatives also bribed/threatened Nicaraguan officials, and if I remember correctly couple of other countries as well https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-04-28/ty-article-magazine/.highlight/weapons-training-and-cash-israel-bribed-liberian-officials-for-years-cables-reveal/00000187-c368-d554-a5b7-df6c62ae0000

It’s not dangerous, it’s a good thing to simplify onboarding for more users. Other major instances should do the same, and of course keep the option for these client apps to support other instances as well. It is appropriate and good for the internet to prioritize onboarding less experienced users over teaching federation theory up front. https://mstdn.social/@feditips/110233282251253677

@anildash so what happens when a corporation, lets say Microsoft, sets up a server, pushes millions of people on to it, ties it into its own garbage eco system, then few years down the road forks and modifies making it incompatible with the fediverse. That’s what Microsoft does. That’s what other corporations will do once they realize the potential of a service they can control themselves.
