Welcome to my tiny corner of the internet! I'm an accessibility specialist for WhatsApp, which is about the least exciting thing about me. I also play video games--while blind! I hosted a politics podcast with Matt Cooper called The Game Is Rigged from 2017-2018. I've produced and acted in the Worm full-cast Audiobook project. I host a weekly show called Thoughtfood on Venom.FM from 12 to 3 PM PST on Sundays. I also sing and play drums. I'm even a snappy dresser--though this is disputed!

Here's the latest in our "Meet the Candidates" series for District 5, where we ask each candidate to answer one question per week leading up to the election. All the responses are compiled onto a single page, where readers can peruse the potential District 5 supervisors' stances on upwards of 40 topics before it's time to vote in November. Three candidates are challenging Supervisor Dean Preston in District 5, which spans from the east end of Golden Gate Park through Haight-Ashbury, Japantown and the Western Addition, the Lower Haight and Hayes Valley, and most of the Tenderloin.

@evan Okay, what I mean is, who is not a worker? Presumably the CEO and board members are not workers, the external shareholders are not workers. What about senior leadership? Or the executive staff? Are managers also workers?

Love to see screen reader improvements mentioned in almost every Mortal Kombat 1 patch, and usually it’s something genuinely good, and this time is no different. We finally have a speed control! You could already do it on the system level on PC and Xbox but god this is a godsend on playstation. There’s also a new audio queue for fatal blow inputs

@pitermach Amazing that they are continuing to provide these updates! I am torn because it feels like the stuff that was there before was released before they were ready, so a lot of this is catchup. But most studios barely support accessibility post-launch at all! Really worth underscoring for other companies IMO.

@Mendi_Tech I use Enafore .social and love it. It's forked from Pinafore which is no longer receiving updates, but the developer of Enafore has been really responsive thus far and has added new features like post editting and support for things like Markdown for servers that support that.

More people are going into the “generative UI” camp of design/dev.

Please remember that your default UI must be accessible no matter what.

No matter how dynamic your UI is, that’s not going to magically solve accessibility

Accessibility is and will continue to be about defaults and intentionality

TLDR @NVAccess needs to fill out a form for MS to approve their use case for access to embedded speech. They would also need to be a Microsoft managed customer, and agree to Azure's T's&C's.

I got 6 wyze colored bulbs for my bathrooms. (they were half the price of the 4-pack of Hue white lights I got, and they don't have a hub!) I have been somewhat vexed deciding what colors to make them. Three bulbs per room just gives far too many possibilities for my ADHD brain to cope with! So, I have solved this problem in a very me way: random light colors! Now whenever you turn on the lights in a room, each one will come on with a different color. https://community.home-assistant.io/t/random-light-colors/582969

Unfortunately you have to toggle them in the app for this to work, flipping the switches does not appear to change the lights. Still cool though! The only thing that would make this better would be to set it up so that each light changes once every, oh, let's say 15 minutes. I'm sure that is doable, but I haven't looked into it yet.

We need to STOP running DOOM on new things
and START putting new things into DOOM.

For example, today I added micro-transactions to the original game. Any time you pick up an item, the game freezes until you make a payment.

opening DOOM from the command line. start a new game. immediately walk to health item. when the character touches it, the game freezes and a QR code pops up. I scan the qr code with my phone and a credit card payment UI is displayed. I enter fake credit card details, hit submit. A second later the web page on the phone says "Payment Complete" and the game on the computer resumes.
