Today at 12:00 Dutch time, there was Navalny's funeral in Moscow.

It was the first time for me to go to an embassy, the Russian one, to place flowers as a sign of respect to one of their citizens.

The funeral in Moscow of the murdered Russian dissident Navalny whit lots f people attending despite the risk of arrest.

Written by a Jew born in 1948, worthwhile for anybody who wants the Israeli/Palestine conflict summarized:

Nonviolent resistance has failed. Israel left Palestinians with few options besides violent resistance. The many Palestinians who hate Hamas are afraid to say so. The thugs would torture and kill them. Meanwhile, every innocent killed by Israel creates more recruits. Hamas is not, as Israel says, a snake. It is a Hydra. Cut off 1 head, more will grow in its place.

The article ends with:

'We should remember that we are Jewish before we are Zionist.

What Israel is doing to Gazans goes against everything Judaism has always stood for.

It is beyond horrible for Palestinians. It’s time more of us realized that it is also very bad for the Jews.'

Lemme see if I get this:

If I copy your shit as my own, that's plagiarism and it's bad.

But when I copy everyone's shit and run it through a mystery box that rearranges it until it barely makes sense, that's futuristic technology.

And if I take your shit and sell it, that's copyright violation and it's bad.

But when I make a place for people to post their shit and I just sell access to it so the mystery box people can have it, that's a viable business model.

Makes perfect sense.

I think that differences include:

a) the objective
Is the AI learning because it wants to improve its skill level or only to turn other people's work into income for its owner?

b) the scale
Compare the average reach of a person with the reach of an AI, which wouldn't even be developed if it could not spread towards millions.

c) the usage
A person copying my work, I can see as a compliment, but an AI distributing my workstyle to millions threatens my livelihood

paulschoe,

I still feel that 'being able to draw' is something else than reproducing in volume and seeing your creativity potentially being used in large volume commercial environments.

I think that scale and accessibility make a difference.

In your other reply you mention that you are a musician. Some people have a very distinguished voice (Paolo Conte comes to mind). I wonder how fair it is when I can make music behind my desk with their unique voice print.

If I made a deal (snitch?) with the prosecutors about my involvement in illegally arranging alternate slates of Republican electors, I would be as honest as possible.

But here we are.

Chesebro now probably does not have a deal anymore and will most likely also face perjury charges.

Answering 'no' on the questions 'Do you have any social media presence?' 'Any alternate IDs?' appears not to be a very viable strategy when you spout legal nonsense on a Twitter account.

1 more thing...

Sadow claims it was a "mistake." Puh-leeze.

" and Wade...were ultimately forced to change their numbers.

"[They] received an onslaught of harassing phone calls over the weekend after their personal contact information was cited in legal paperwork from Trump’s defense lawyer in case"...

I wouldn't be surprised if this was done on explicit orders from the Golden Spoon Bully and if the lawyers had the 'mistake' defence already prepared in case they were accused of falsely leaking those telephone numbers.

Leaking the personal information of accusers is a standard strategy for mafia dons who want pressure to be put on those people (or worse).

BREAKING: IDF spokesperson writes in the Wall Street Journal that their military has 'discovered that most homes in Gaza have terror tunnels underneath or weapon caches inside, and the majority of schools, mosques, hospitals and international institutions have been used by Hamas for their military operations'

The hate on Bluesky is on a completely different level. I'm Iraqi Moroccan Israeli Jewish and someone told me to get back to Brooklyn (where I have never been and have never known anyone in). Every single thing I say about my own family experience surviving the massacre is "debunked". You can't debunk my literal life experience lmao. I didn't say one word against Palestinians, I only said the victims of the massacre matter - this is literally all I've said, and I got neverending hate comments.

I am not sure that there is always a middle ground.

While thousands of babies, children, women, and elderly are being murdered at this very moment, where is the middle ground?

When one party wants to end Democracy, where is the middle ground?

When one country takes the land of another and terrorizes the civilians, where is the middle ground?

When Hitler killed millions, where was the middle ground?

While in , Tucker Carlson visited a grocery store there that he depicted as a typical Russian grocery store. Only it turns out that it was French. Now, who again is confusing fantasy with reality? https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/2/20/2224687/-A-quick-note-about-Tucker-Carlson-s-visit-to-Russia?pm_campaign=trending&pm_source=sidebar&pm_medium=web

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

Tucker showed again that he is not a journalist.

The 'Russian' supermarket that he was gloating about, wasn't 'Russian' at all.

It was a subsidiary of the French hypermarket Auchan (in the article, you see that even the logos are similar).

No wonder that they had freshly baked bread.

As far as Tucker's statements were concerned: it is nothing surprising, just more lies and disinformation to rile up his base.

A base that until Trump was vehemently anti-Russia.

In preparation for and various other things, I'd love to hear people's opinions on:

  • what are the next three things we need to accomplish in the ? (anything goes, from tech to moderation to funding to ...)

  • how would we go about this?

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

At the upcoming I hope that people discuss the options to integrate a payment system into the that will allow creators to get paid for the articles, videos, music and other art they present.

Having a payment or micro-payment system might attract many creatives to the Fediverse, which will solidify the Fediverse as the place where cultural discourse occurs.

@J12t

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

A payment system to support creators would ideally:

  • be a system like PayPal or Buy-me-a-Coffee.

  • operate with the main Fediverse platforms so that they enable a 1-button system on posts to connect content to payments.

  • be a foundation that shares any created profits back to the Fediverse System Admins of the instances where the contributors come from.

  • have a name that presents the culturally intended purpose of the system (like Buy-me-a-Coffee).

@J12t

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

I do expect that every Instance should be able to deactivate such a payment or subscription option

However, I do not think that you can federate a payment module. Payment processing and interfaces to payment providers isn't only technically a big job, but also requires an organisation able to deal with a myriad of non-technical issues.

After all, it isn't the intention to make the Fediverse a haven for criminals.

The intention is to be able to reward creators for their work.

This short video made by the Guardian shows the absolute destruction by the Israeli army of almost all infrastructure in Gaza.

  • residential buildings
  • greenhouses
  • warehouses
  • fruit trees, olive orchards
  • schools and universities
  • hospitals and other healthcare
  • 'safe' evacuation paths

Listening to the description is horrific.

BDS Movement: Update: Palestinians call to ban genocidal Israel from Eurovision

"The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate call on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to ban Israel from the Eurovision Song Contest – the world’s biggest live music event – or face widespread boycotts.

Israel, considered an apartheid state by major human rights organisations worldwide, is accused by South Africa, supported by tens of states, of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza at the International Court of Justice.

A senior UN human rights official and a prominent Israeli scholar of the Holocaust and genocide have described Israel’s war on the 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied and besieged Gaza as “a textbook case of genocide.” Dozens of UN experts and hundreds of international law scholars have also warned of “a genocide in the making.” …"

Nobody is saying that the October 7 attack by terrorist organisation Hamas wasn't horrific.

But killing and starving tens of thousands, including the elderly, children, hospitals etc. by a nation that claims to be civilized is even worse.

And it is going on EVERY SINGLE DAY.

@lizstl13 @joenepraat

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

Nothing that Israel is doing right now, will destroy Hamas.

Instead, they are only creating more people who become enemies of Israel because Israel killed their fathers, their mothers, their sisters, their brothers, their houses, and their livelihoods.

In the meanwhile, peace treaties with other countries are postponed or cancelled while the leaders of Hamas watch this with happiness on their TVs while discussing how they can financially benefit from Israels's actions

@lizstl13 @joenepraat

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

For decades I have been an unconditional supporter of Israel, but the one thing that I always associated Israel with is that it is the country that acts without any consideration of UN resolutions.

For decades.

During the last 20 years, that was complemented with: the country that uses an Apartheid regime to rule.

And now it added to this: the country that feels that genocide is a legitimate form of defence.

That last step has taken away my unconditional support

@lizstl13 @joenepraat

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

One suggestion: not by killing and starving tens of thousands of your neighbours.

Israel's current actions make it lose international support, maybe for decades, maybe forever.

@lizstl13 @joenepraat

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

Nobody is disputing that Hamas is a terrorist organisation.

But killing civilians. Starving the elderly and starving children, mothers will only create more energized enemies and remove international support.

Israel is defying its own objectives.

Do you think that England could behave like this during the Irish Troubles, during which the Northern Irish were threatened in the same way, or even more, as Israel is?

@lizstl13 @joenepraat

paulschoe,
@paulschoe@mastodon.world avatar

Stop the suffering.

Create a situation where Palestinians can determine their own future, where they can build a livelihood so that they can take care of their families and see a peaceful future for their kids.

Help developing a non-violent Palestina.
