So pretty! But will have to find out what the name of this plant is first. I don't know a lot of the names of plants in my mother's garden. UPDATE: It's a Mussaenda "marmalade".

The PH government has declared a regular holiday tomorrow, June 28 for Eid al'Adha. But that won't be until evening of the 28th. Technically shouldn't the holiday be on the 29th, so our Muslim brothers and sisters can celebrate and not work? If someone can enlighten me, that would be very nice.

Last night I received a call from a widowed friend, who needed someone to talk to. She was hesitant to come clean, because she was embarrassed, but finally she admitted she had her first crush on a guy since her husband died a couple of years ago. She was conflicted about loyalty to her dead husband and her interest in her friend, but I pointed out that her husband would've wanted her to be happy. After that I just listened to her talk about her crush like when we were teenagers. I'm sincerely happy that she has sort of come out of the slump of depression since her husband's death. She then said, "I'm so happy you didn't laugh at me and just listened." I guess that's what good friends do.

I'm so unlucky. Every time I decide to use my Calckey account, it goes to maintenance update. Sigh.

pixiecata,

@cedled Calckey's back! I just reopened the site.

I've always wanted to make a post. Saw this little scene while I was out walking the dog very early this morning. Looking at it refreshes me.

I have been reading some extremely well-written alt-texts accompanying plant/flower/pet photos this morning. I'm not visually challenged, but I still like to read them. Thank you to everyone who helps make Mastodon a better place for accessibility.

My friend Iris showed us a photo of a strange kind of chicharon (crackling) that wasn't made of pork skins. It's called kibet chicharon, made from chitons, a kind of mollusk. More about it here:

Sometimes I follow accounts with advocacies I am interested in, but lately I find them posting almost exclusively depressing things. So I unfollow them, to avoid doomscrolling. Sometimes I have to put my mental health first.

Friday memory: When I was a little girl, there lived two old unmarried sisters in the house next to ours. We called them Lola Reyes and Lola Ninang. Lola Reyes had a magic glass cabinet full of those little Murano glass animals and other figures, and tiny doll tea sets, and she always let me and my sister play with them carefully. The sisters passed away when I was in high school, and I was very sad. The house went to their nephews and nieces. I always wondered whether they kept the magic cabinet.

Earthquake was super strong here in our area (we're like only 100kms away from the epicenter). Estimated magnitude of 5.5 to 6.2. It also lasted a long time. I was glad when it was over. Not sure if that means Taal Volcano is restive again.

Is there any mobile app that allows you to identify Southeast Asian plants/trees? The winds outside our cottage were so strong today that now I have a fallen branch with a spray of flowers that I need to identify.
