Feel like I’m very much a minority voice on here that appreciates how Apple is a privacy protecting company compared to its competitors. I’m not the hard-liner zealot that dominates this space who practices the Stallman dogma even though I’m a fairly well-known privacy zealot. Incredibly fascinating and tragic to observe a decentralized social platform get off the ground without the effect of distributed de-hierarchical multi-instance moderation that we experience on fedi. Super crucial to instantiate a decent prototype instance prior to federating, right? is in a terribly awkward stage right now, but at least it’s closed and can contain its nazibar moderation problem to address before it opens for business.

@Sh41 I think they’re gonna try and lean hard on custom feeds as expressive of “composable moderation” that they speak of which involves the community building feeds that introduce new dynamics. They came out yesterday so all very new and very ‘we’ll see’ ‘who knows’ ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Until there’s a competition among AT-bksy instances to hold each other in check PLUS the promise of so-called composable moderation comes true (that a competition for custom feeds also incentivizes decency), it’s probably too early to tell if the sky is truly blue yet over there.
