Well that was a rubbish night and then I went into town to post a letter and got rained on. My upper half was OK but my jeans were saturated so I went straight upstairs when I got in to put on some warm, dry clothes. Now I can begin the day properly. Standup comedy skills for academics today! I’m excited 😃 Anything fun on your schedule?

The vet put a drop of dye in Miss Cinnamon’s eye and she went mental, so they said there’s no point trying to give her eye drops again. We’ve got some Metacam anti-inflammatory liquid to give her once a day and if it doesn’t clear up my about Thursday we need to take her back. I’m very relieved we don’t have to give her drops again!

@darklyadapted We can’t get pills down Miss Cinnamon either. I know you’re not supposed to crush them but it’s powder them and put them in lick-e-lix or nothing at all goes in

Roast dinner tonight! Chicken for Tom and a readymade mushroom and peanut vegan roast for one for me. We have a veritable plethora of veggies - mangetouts, cabbage, peas, carrots and green beans - and there will be stuffing and gravy. And my special roast potatoes, of course

I can identify clouds, love talking meteorology, and know all about the chakras. These are three interests literally no one asks me about 🤣, mostly because they're less mainstream than my other interests and tend to bore people. I literally babble like an excited child whenever someone asks about any of those things 🙄 😊

I just did a “No Sunday Scaries!” informal deep work session designed to give time in a supportive group to finish up anything left over from the past week and get all your ducks in a row for the week ahead. I finished some work for the old contract that I only have ONE MORE DAY OF (thank god!) and sent it off. I then undertook a major overhaul of my desk space, removing the old iMac than runs so slow we never use it and consistently fail to get fixed. That gave me whole new vistas of desk surface to explore and I set my new file tray, pen tidy and memo holder and brought my Kanban whiteboard in front of my workspace. It looks great! I had been feeling so oppressed by the mess and clutter and working in a cramped area. I’m ready for the last full week of October!

The Guardian makes me so sad. They do all this good social justice reporting but they remain stubbornly transphobic. Yesterday they came out as anti a conversion therapy ban, implying that those of who want the ban are a sinister movement trying to trans children. I hate it.

Got my Work Husband and his girlfriend coming over for dinner tonight.

They’re Italian, so what do you cook for Italians when your “nice occasion” meals are generally, well, Italian? Lasagne and bolognese are my favourite choices to mark an occasion.

A beef roast. I’m cooking a beef roast.

The spuds have just gone in, to cook in the beef’s juices. I’ve got sprouts sitting in a dish with pancetta, doused in olive oil and seasoned.

I went running and saw what I usually see this time of year - houses with Halloween decorations and quite a few with Christmas decorations. Call me old-school, but it's sacrilege to put up Santa before you've given out Halloween candy (at least, it should be). 🎅 🎃 🤷‍♀️

@dancinyogi I love Bonfire Night and I’m really hoping to go to an organised fireworks display this year. I always want to go but in recent years nobody has wanted to go with me and there isn’t one in my town I can go to alone 😭 But Tom seems more up for it this year. I just hope there’s good weather on November 5th
