When I was younger, I used to hide my geekiness. Now I'm a proud geek/dork/nerd hybrid who has no problem admitting she likes Star Trek, has a spreadsheet for everything, birdwatches, is a klutz when she's not dancing, reads a lot, carries an EPI pen, and sometimes, during allergy season🤧 , snorts when she laughs 🤣 🤓

ID'd early this morning in my backyard with the help of my Merlin Bird ID app!

Great Horned Owl

When clenched, a Great Horned Owl’s strong talons require a force of 28 pounds to open. The Great Horned Owl is a very aggressive nighttime hunter and strikes from above. This is why they are sometimes called “tigers of the night.” They use their strong talons to carry animals several times heavier than they are.

@dancinyogi I like them too. I had a lovely one when I was job hunting with all the dates of application submissions and interviews etc, and the salaries, and I worked out the travel costs for each role… It’s nearly time to get my Christmas gift spreadsheet out. I use it to keep track of how much I am spending, make sure I treat the kids equally, etc

@realTuckFrumper @mentallyalex Never trust armchair diagnoses, even from clinical experts. It’s unethical and imprecise. You cannot diagnose psychopathy from a distance, it require multiple one-to-one assessments.

@squig @realTuckFrumper @mentallyalex I’m not going to argue you with you, I spent six years working with mentally disordered offenders, ten years as a mental health consultant working alongside top UK psychiatrists and psychologists, and I’m just about to start a PhD working with people with personality disorders. So you are not going to convince me that it is right or effective to diagnose at a distance, and this convo is at an end

Visiting my father. Apparently, the facility used to have a meditation instructor visit once a week. This was a few years ago. They stopped and never rehired anyone, so someone volunteered to do it. That person had a baby and can no longer volunteer, so guess who volunteered to take her place? 😀

Confession: been seeing OH used on here by folks mostly in the UK to clearly talk about a partner. But did I read this as “other half”? I did not; it was either Ohio or otter husband until I googled it.

Awake

Humidity is terrible again this morning.

I slept okay though had a longish awake interval. I have a vague memory of an oddball dream near when I woke up at 5 AM.

I've washed and smoothed face, still need to brush hair.

Scientists publish studies on how too much sitting will kill you, and how standing desks aren’t much better … but how about a study of people who plant their feet against the nearest surface and tip back and forth on their chair, the way their teachers always told them not to?
