Shrine of Apple was a website with beautiful pictures of Apple's products over the years. It is gone now and, sadly, it looks like the product photos were never archived. All I have are these Performa 200 images I grabbed years ago. There is also a book, Iconic, with the photos, but it doesn't appear to be available anymore. Anyone have it?

Michael Crichton wrote Jurassic Park in Palatino on a Macintosh II using Word for Mac 3.0/4.0. Screenshot is from my Voyager edition ebook that was developed using Hypercard and distributed on a 1.44 floppy disk. Voyager ebooks were mainly marketed to PowerBook users for reading on the go.

Front cover of ebook.
Inside of the ebook with the floppy disk.
Michael Crichton at the Macintosh II around the time he was working on the novel. Notice the copy of MacWorld on his desk.

@csilverman It is beautifully done. If you have an old Mac or Basilisk, I recommend downloading it from one of the Mac software archives and checking it out. Well worth it.

If you own an Apple FineWoven iPhone case and have used it regularly for the last few months:

@gruber I checked the fine woven MagSafe wallet out at the store and left clutching my existing leather MagSafe wallet tightly. Hopefully Apple realizes this was a mistake.

Your computer's calendar is set to 2/22/24 which is incorrect…

I guess the Blue Meanies didn't anticipate someone would be installing System 7.1 in 2024. 🤔

Hello! Please boost, if you can. I am looking for someone who can create a flyer in PageMaker 4.

The short and simple version for context: I'm writing a novel about a group of AIDS activists in the early 90s. The main character is a computer science major who has been tasked with creating a flyer for an upcoming protest. I plan on including images of the artwork in the novel so if it is ever publish, you will be give full credit. #vintageapple #design

Rhapsody in VirtualBox. It's so cool to see these early versions of MacOS and to see what's changed (and what hasn't).

@paulrickards This is great. Thanks! But I keep closing the app with command+w instead of closing the Finder window. Haha.

After Jobs pulled the plug on themes, Greg Landweber, who created the Aaron extension, and Arlo Rose, who worked on Appearance Manager and was part of the Mac OS 8 HI team at Apple, released Kaleidoscope… (more below) https://web.archive.org/web/20110928000634/http://kaleidoscope.net/

Appearance Manager Themes originally intended for Copland. All were pulled from MacOS 8.5 at the last minute by Steve Jobs. The Drawing Board theme was developed by Apple Japan and leaked online after the release of 8.5. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appearance_Manager #vintageapple #retrocomputing #macos #apple #copland

I got an untested SyQuest 88MB removable SCSI drive and some 88MB cartridges are coming soon. I had one of these in the past so this scratching a retro itch for me.

Anyone have modern experience with them? How likely is the drive to work? Do they always fail over time, have known issues, etc?

I can't verify this is an actual screenshot of Taligent, but it is interesting. The window chrome has tab-style title bars à la BeOS/Smalltalk, NeXTSTEP Dock, Chicago font, System 7 folders. The Notes file on the desktop looks like something from IRIX. The wallpaper has a Windows 95 look to it. Pretty sure this is fake as I don't think it ever made it to this stage of development. Anything else I’m missing? What influences do you see?
