@thurrott I was just looking at viability of OneDrive on Linux simply because of Micrsoft dropping support for Win10. Have an old desktop that is pretty much local OneDrive backup, remote CAD machine (to CAD workstation) and web meeting machine. Perfectly good for that but is blocked from 11. That policy is trashing tonnes of perfectly good hardware but Microsoft still claim to be 'green'

I have a spare tire for AHBART* on top of a cupboard in the garage. Heard cat noises while servicing my bicycle and took a while to find the source...

*Abarth takes a slightly odd size and has no spare wheel. When a rear one was punctured I replaced both and kept the good, but slightly worn, one if replacement not available

Online firms are not the only ones that use dark patterning.

I bought a 12 pack of imported beers for $20 only to get home and realise that each bottle was half the size of a standard bottle.
(Next time I need to take my glasses to read the small print on the packaging and MY WORD it was small.)

And then there are those evil packs of 10 eggs deliberately designed to trap shoppers in a hurry who might think they are buying 12.

Is it me being fussy or do other people think that news media, including specialist tech news media, doesn’t do a great job reporting AI? Specifically, there’s often not enough explaining and background information for someone coming new to a story to get a handle on it.

robincapper, (edited )
@robincapper@mastodon.nz avatar

@billbennett @stojg The best discussion I've heard on AI is this recently released Infinite Monkey Cage.

Perhaps the most revealing concept was not really AI related: Cars don't work unless the people not in them know they can kill them.

This morning was a very obvious demonstration of Kiwis rejection of Mastodon to me.

I checked my feed with about 5 mins of this morning's rugby game left. Twitter would've been alight with every person's views on the play so far, their predictions for the result, and a smattering of "IDGAF about sport, please everyone shut up". There was nothing here. It took me a further 3 hours to see anyone mention who had actually won.

Maybe it's a symptom of my echo chamber? But it was screamingly obvious

@dave @Phil_Tanner To me it seems BlueSky is just Twitter 2, how will it not go the same way (but faster)?
