This is just one of many studies now, showing that monitoring and filtering IAQ not only improves student health, but also test scores!!!

The kid is now saying the new carer can't come back tomorrow, even though he agreed yesterday. Breakfast was just a fruitless frustrating argument.

I'm back in bed, weeping, just completely overwhelmed.

Sweated blood yesterday and today trying to fill out just two more pages of necessary paperwork, and took several breaks in between to cover our freshly-mown front lawn with cardboard as the first step to grass replacement.

The latter was definitely more satisfying, and easier to measure the progress of.

Unfolded cardboard boxes weighed down with rocks over a grass lawn, with white woman's hand in foreground flipping off the remaining visible grass

Haven't said this in a bit, so

ahem

Indoor air quality () is the water sanitation of our time.

Schools, workplaces and hospitals should all be properly monitored and ventilated/filtered.

At the VERY least.

That is all.

It became devastatingly clear to me, with the removal of mask mandates and no move to monitor and improve that the NZ govt had abandoned us. The choice to drop mandatory isolation rules only reinforces that. All we have now is, essentially, community defense and .

Find your local Covid-conscious folks, stock up on masks, and continue to fight (as frustrating as it is) for schools and workplaces to recognise .

Because my memory is barely better than Dory, if I do anything less often than once a week, I basically forget how to do it and have to relearn it.

So, I'm looking up how to vote again, lol.

I thought we got ballots in the mail, but maybe that was just that one time back during lockdown?

Also, I don't think we got any Easy Vote packs? Maybe they got blown out of our mailbox by the high winds this weekend, lol

The existence of the term "con crud" really should have been a greater indicator of how spaces are constructed and managed to exacerbate or mitigate the spread of illness.

I'm glad @kiwipycon and have been and doing things about it, but what other organisers are?

Question for parents, caregivers, or people who remember relevant details from their own childhood:

What tips and methods seem to work best for introducing the concept of money, savings and to young kids?

Our six-year-old is very smart, advanced at reading and getting better than average at math, but he's also impulsive*, so not sure about the jar advice.

@Ghet hey, @stephen said you'd be one to ask about rose care. I've inherited a bunch of well-established roses from the late former owner of our new house. Got any advice? https://mastodon.nz/@seawall/110920546730150548

Thinking I would like to go spend an hour or two somewhere out of the house, nice and cool indoors because it's hot today, with some tea, snacks, and a book...

Buuuuut post-holiday COVID cases are what they are, sooooo I guess instead I'll get takeaway and find somewhere in the shade to park my car. 🙃

Friends, help. Since the start of the panny d, my movie viewing has declined sharply (and will stay that way until IAQ is addressed, long story short).

The few I've seen and enjoyed: EEAAO, SMILE, THE MEG 2, BARBIE, and STRANGE WAY OF LIFE.

Anything amazing that I've missed out on? 📽️

Shocking news today. One of husband's childhood friends died suddenly in hospital. He'd been taking acetaminophen for some ongoing aches and pains, and must have crossed the safe dose, because his liver failed. Fuck.

Remember to be careful even with over-the-counter medications, friends. 😔

40 teaching staff out with COVID, forcing school closure in Rangiora.

But it's "not about COVID", somehow. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Can we start seriously discussing clean air in classrooms, yet?

People are apparently eating possum here in NZ as meat prices rise.

I'll try anything once, but the scientists and the food safety guy quoted in here make me think it's a bad idea.

TLDR: NZ possums likely harbour bacteria, poison bait, and possibly TB! YUM!

I'd like to get some raspberry and blackberry bushes in my backyard, but I know from last year's attempt at blueberries that blackbirds will get under netting somehow, even if staked from the fence to the ground. I've heard of "berry cages" or frames you can tack netting to, can y'all share pics and tutorials about such things?

My kid has been asking what the weather forecast for "the Little Kingdom" is.

If you're not familiar (aka not a parent of young kids who watch BBC programs), he means Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, which was a series created and voiced by much of the same team behind Peppa Pig, but with a woodland fantasy setting populated by elves, fairies, gnomes and dwarves.

Slightly mortifying question: how skillful a cyclist do you have to be to tow a kids trailer on your bike?

Someone has offered to lend us a trailer, and I am still at the absolute beginner stage of learning, but anything that helps us travel with our kid, who is still boycotting travel by car or bus, would be nice.

I have terrible news.

The multi test for COVID, flu A/B and RSV was briefly available from Life Pharmacy, but out of stock now.

Maybe if enough of us email Life Pharmacy beseechingly they'll restock soon.
