This sort of ass-hattery is the reason why Apple had to burn through billions trying to build its own car, and also why Mercedes-Benz and the likes will probably cease to exist in a few years. https://mastodon.social/@verge/112355377245296750

Hm. I've seen a few articles include Bluesky under the "fediverse" umbrella but even if it were federated do you consider it part of it when it uses a completely different, incompatible protocol?

shooboo,

@tante is it fundamentally different and incompatible?

@jimfl cond always looks weird and I don’t see it being used often. If it’s possible to correctly express with function clauses and pattern matching, go for it! Looks perfectly idiomatic

In the end, I've just finally decided to climb the Colemak-DH mountain.

I've never been a touch-typer but using 3-4 fingers per hand, moving hands here and there, I was able to easily play it at around 75wpm with basically no errors.

I've bought an #ErgoDash #MechanicalKeyboard past summer: I'm still struggling with the "normal" QWERTY (see layout here https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/current.html), not yet able to go beyond 40wpm or so, with frequent errors.

    shooboo,

@AAMfP if you happen to use #vim or #neovim, I would be very interested to hear how Colemak DH works with it and how your set up looks like. I’m always confused with the theory of remapping HJKL, or not remapping but relearning instead, and solid first hand reports are scarce.

So, I picked up Mela to store recipes and plan meals/shopping lists etc. I also paid for the iOS version, but even though it lists family sharing, when my wife tries to access the + version, it tries to charge for the premium app. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    shooboo,

@andycarolan have you tried restoring the purchase? Haven’t tried it with Mela yet, but I remember it working with another app.

I’d argue that 95% of tech videos on YouTube should have just been blog posts.

    And I’m being conservative here.

    shooboo,

@akosma not only tech, 95% of all videos, period.

heading this off at the pass: no, JLCPCB's ToS do not grant them the right to reuse or sell your PCB designs. read the full text to understand the context and purposes applicable to the rights you're granting them, not just one isolated sentence, and think about the functionality of the site (e.g. generating gerber previews from your uploads, storing uploads in your account's file manager page, publishing customer reviews, etc.) and what rights must be granted to support that.

    shooboo,

@gsuberland there’s at least AllPCB and PCBWay, or are those also subsidiaries of JLC?

Something I've always wondered is, assuming a hypothetical perfect communist system, what would the standard of living look like? I've seen people try to make arguments based on taking the GDP/GNP then dividing it by the population, which works out at about $70k per person. But then they're picturing that within a current system of artificially constrained housing supply, for profit healthcare/education, and 10x price markups. Assuming a perfectly efficient system in which the only costs are resources + time, and 90% of society's labor isn't going to sustaining completely useless overhead, what does the average lifestyle look like?

    shooboo,

@malwaretech a „hypothetical perfect communist system“ can only exist post-scarcity, when productivity and available resources are infinite while everything that requires effort is entirely automated. So to answer your question: the standard of living would be „everyone‘s a billionaire“.

Now, back to the real world: speculate no more, ask any Eastern European.

So, for no reason at all, I’m trying the kitty terminal emulator: https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/

I tell myself it looks faster… placebo effect? This is not for civilians, hitting ⌘-, drops you into a vim buffer on the config file.

Anyone have any cool kitty config tricks? I mean, I’ve been using the basic MacOS terminal for a couple decades now so maybe I’m not elite enough…

    shooboo,

@timbray while you’re at it, check out Wezterm for a less dogmatic experience, e.g. „bold black“ will render as light grey as in every other terminal. And it’s just as fast.

I’ve been on this network for a bit over a week now and haven’t been able to find a fun mix for my timeline. So far it feels like 90% of the discussion is very meta, about Mastodon/Twitter/Threads and how awesome the fediverse* is. The rest is variations of “conservatives bad!”, which I guess is common sense, but boring. I miss shitposting and memes and geeky tech content. Looking for follow recommendations 😅
