I lead a club ride today, only 10km
But.

  • It was my first ride as a leader since I broke my arm 6 months ago
  • It was the first ride for another member in 2 years following knee surgery
  • It was the first ride back for another member after surgery for a life altering condition
So yes it was quite a ride and the sun shone on us
Cycling is amazing no matter how, where and why you do it ❤️🚲

The blue Crumpler building below our apartment reminds me of a big piece of Lego. What do you think?

Today I feel emotionally exhausted. I feel like my life is going to be pre 11 May Aurora and post 11 May. I've been planning for the solar maximum for at least 6 years - would I go to Canada? Finland? spend 6 months in southern New Zealand?
In the end I spent 4 hours on a beach an hour's drive from my home. It was more than I ever dared hope for.
As the beams shot over my head with awesome power I was overwhelmingly grateful to my mother earth, whose magnetic field and atmosphere keep me safe every single second of my life.
Sigh.
I think I need to get a rail replacement bus or something to ground me again.

We were doing a bit of gardening out the front of our house when we heard and saw some Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos in trees across the road. My wife went to check them out and took this photo of one flying away, with our house behind.

Australia Post will only be delivering letters to the home every second day from Monday instead of every day. This is due to a substantial reduction in mail volume over the years while parcel volume has increased substantially.

I volunteer to do a monthly newsletter for a group. Almost everyone gets an email but 3 members for various accessibility reasons get snail mail

Crisp morning, waiting at the tram stop in Bourke St. I'm off to Benalla today via train, to give some travel writing talks. Been a while since I was up this early for a train.

Catching a tram from the Paris End to Docklands. Lovely morning out. I don’t often use this stop, classy surrounds.

siftinsand,

@timrichards The Collins St trams are a great way to take in all the remarkable buildings. If I walk or drive I'm too distracted to notice

We have just returned home after a lovely weekend at the festival. This morning I bought a book called 'Desert Anzacs the under-told story'. I cannot attest to the worth of the book but I really like the humility in the title. It is not 'untold' as so many authors claim for whatever they are writing, but 'undertold'.

I suppose that nearly all authors think that their history is undertold - that is the reason they feel compelled to write the book. But it is rare that a history is truly untold and often the 'untold' history book provides a lot of evidence that refutes the claim such as parliamentary debates, letters etc.

My complaint also applies to claims of the 'first', the 'biggest', etc. We suffer from the over-use of superlatives which diminishes the impact of these significant words.

'Amazing' deserves a special mention. Next time you feel tempted to use this word, perhaps stop and think about whether it is truly amazing. If you are using the word every day, that indicates that you may be either experiencing a life that no-one else has ever lived or you are diminishing the meaning of the word.

siftinsand,

@perkinsy I was there on Saturday, chapeau to towns and communities like Clunes who get together and create something like
