House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called on Supreme Court Justice Samuel #Alito to recuse himself from Jan. 6 cases after news that, according to The New York Times, a second flag of a type carried by Jan. 6 rioters was displayed outside Alito’s home.
😂 “Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) moved to force a vote on ousting Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Wednesday, a momentous move that is all but certain to fail amid opposition from conservative Republicans and Democrats.”
@golgaloth My best die roll ever was in a WEG Star Wars d6 game where I decided to go through an asteroid belt to escape the Star Destroyer that was supposed to catch us. I just kept rolling 6's on the wild die, over and over. The DM was furious because his story hinged on us being caught. Turns out there was another SD waiting for us on the other side of the asteroids. But it was fully worth it.
@GottaLaff 100% agree with you here. The only opinions that matter right now are those of the SC justices, and anyone who thinks they know what those are is likely projecting their own biases upon them. I've got my fingers crossed that this turns out the legally correct way, but there's always an outside chance it doesn't. For now, we've got a solid win that preserves the rule of law, and for that we should all be thankful.
I. DO. NOT. HAVE. COVID. LAURIE DOES. OKAY? Thank you for caring, but sheesh! Read the post! Read the thread!

I have just tested + for #COVID19 -- my 1st time. I wear masks, but hardly anybody else does. Went to 6 pharmacies in search of #Paxlovid ...only one has the drug, but declined insurance & demanded $1600.38 for 5-day supply. Outrageous.
@GottaLaff This could be problematic on appeal...defamation of a public figure (whom Carroll certainly is) requires a higher standard than "normal" defamation. Not allowing a question about his intent in making the statements could be appealable error (IMO).
(Painters slowed me down. I'm catching up...patience)
Via InnerCityPress aka Press:
Habba: My client & I wish to pt out Ms Carroll can sit in front of jurors every day. But my client has to choose between attending his mother in law's funeral--
Judge Kaplan: I have ruled. Sit down
Habba: I don't like to be spoken to that why. Please refrain. I am asking for an adjournment for a funeral.
Judge Kaplan: Denied. Sit down
@GottaLaff Is this cross or direct? This is clearly establishing high levels of income prior to the defamation, which one would presume means a decline afterward...
Alina Habba, prowling the well of the courtroom, said this case started before Tish James was elected, pointing at AG. Engoron reminds her to stick to the facts, which she says she is trying to do, but that James’s conduct is part of the factual record.
Civil contempt is usually imposed at the time of the act, as it's essentially a fiat power of the judge. Criminal contempt is usually imposed after the fact, since it requires the same elements and process as any criminal matter.
I think it's unlikely that Kise will be found in contempt here, though Trump himself might be. While it's possible to hold an attorney in contempt for the actions of a client, it's not the preferred or usual approach.
#Habba asked if #Trump hired her because she’s hot:
“I don’t think I’d be on TV or sitting here if I didn’t look the way I look. I think I caught attention. I’m very honest about that and I don’t mind. I’m not a feminist … Someone asked me, 'Would you rather be smart or pretty?' ...Easy! Pretty! I can fake being smart!...You have to honest, it doesn’t hurt to be good looking.”
A new poll asked voters to describe what they think a 2nd #Trump term will look like in one word. Most common responses were “Revenge” & “Dictatorship.” Trump loved the result so much he posted it on Truth Social.
[Here's a screengrab of the post via Aaron Rupar]:
@GottaLaff I'm reminded of the adage that when someone tells you who they are, you should listen to them. Frighteningly enough, I think many people voting for him are fine with a dictatorship...
@CivilityFan@GottaLaff Last I checked, "performing for your client" isn't among the attorneys' duties to their client. Respecting the court and due process is, however.
What a slime ball on so many levels. But by all means, keep talking #Santos.
Santos Accuses GOP Colleagues of Drunkenness, Adultery, Insider Trading
Santos isn't going quietly.
Santos: "He's going to be undermined all thru-out this election process by very ppl who shd be supporting him...These ppl will undermine him, they will get in his way, they will redirect voters from him to others. Make no mistake, there are a lot of Members in this body in GOP who hate Trump."
@GottaLaff While it would be great to see anyone take down the GOP with them, we've seen hints of that before and they've never come to fruition. Santos will probably be another of those, though it would be amazing if he broke open all the secrets he's been exposed to. If he really wants (in)famy and a name that lasts more than 15 minutes, he'd take the chance.
Today at 10am ET, U.S. District Judge Tanya #Chutkan will preside over her first hearing in the election interference case — and decide whether to limit what #Trump can reveal to the public about government evidence. #legal#TrumpIndictment 1/… 🪡
@msbellows@GottaLaff@acwhite@Brandi_Buchman But doesn't "accelerating the trial date" also open the case up to an appeal that delays the case? A different angle, for sure, but if the judge moves too quickly, there's a claim that the defense wasn't given proper time to prepare their case, which could result in an a due process claim.
#Biden: "The one that bothers me the most is overdraft fees for banks ...1 of leading bank presidents .. he had a yacht. The name of the yacht was 'Overdraft' ...guess what? There are gonna be no more overdraft fees."
"Does anyone here think the federal tax system is fair? ... we're gonna make it fair by eliminating loopholes for crypto traders, hedge fund managers, big oil ... no billionaire should pay a lower tax rate than a school teacher, firefighter, or cop." #Bidenomics
