@gruber the number one reason I can’t wait to get back to being gainfully employed is not for the steady paycheck or the sense of accomplishment. It’s just so I don’t feel compelled to check LinkedIn regularly and can return to only checking it once a year (at most).

Let's say your site offers a dark theme option.

While adding it isn’t too complex, there's always edge cases in the site that cause headaches.

Then… you also want to use a custom colour palette for certain pages - e.g, black on orange. Should that override the dark theme? Or should there be a special dark theme version of that custom colour palette? Do I have time for that? (no)

These are the thoughts that go round and round in my head. Tempted to just get rid of the dark theme.

@jonhicks I made the same choice when I was redesigning the site for The Incomparable.

Certain shows have their own accent color to go with cover art, but it was a lot to expect hosts to choose colors that would work in both light and dark with enough contrast for smaller elements.

So the accent color shows up in the header and audio player bar, but in light mode it’s also used for links.

I recently started using my iPhone as my laptop’s webcam on client calls, which has been really great — the picture quality’s just so much better than the webcam I was using before.

The thing I need to remember is that when I start a Zoom call, the iPhone camera will automatically connect, regardless of whether or not it’s mounted on my display. Say, when my iPhone’s just in sitting in my pocket.

Just a hypothetical, you understand.

Somehow I’ve never heard of Penpot before, a free and open-source alternative to Figma/Sketch. It’s been around for years (!), looks to have a lot of feature parity, and you can even self-host. The internet is just so vast: https://penpot.app/

I’m in the process of moving all of a parent’s credit, banking, online ordering, and medical accounts over to my phone number bc they (my parent) can no longer deal with five-step logins and mandatory SMS codes across wildly inconsistent patterns and hoooooo boy are the tech companies and systems unprepared for what is about to hit them, generationally.

It took five phone calls, three codes, and two emails to change just one account over.
