I’m deeply concerned by Iran’s multi-layered attack on Israel and am praying for our ally and Americans in the region. President Biden and the U.S. remain unwavering in our commitment to Israel’s defense and security. I strongly urge Speaker Johnson to bring the security supplemental aid package to the House floor immediately.

@siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment are you aware of this may 1 ITMS-91053 missing API declaration requirement Apple has? We have to declare why we are using a category of APIs but they didn’t tell us which specific apis so it a a haystack hunt of finding symbols in frameworks with no obvious reason why the linker linked them, as well as updating SDKs to get signed, manifested versions, along with whatever side effects of a SDK bump.

Seems like a good topic for how Apple works.

steveriggins,
@steveriggins@mastodon.social avatar

@siracusa Apple has marked some APIs as used for fingerprinting and wants developers to supply reason codes for each category. They include user defaults, file time stamps, and boot time APIs. But they don’t tell us which apis were found in which binaries, leaving developers up to guessing. Apps will need these declarations by may 1 or be rejected.

steveriggins,
@steveriggins@mastodon.social avatar

@siracusa Ah, I wasn’t sure if the angle was that they want the info (fine) but they give zero clues about how to satisfy the requirements. I have some symbols showing up in frameworks via nm that I simply cannot figure out where they are being imported from. Apple could have made this a one hour task by supplying specific APIs in specific frameworks, but they tossed it over the wall and said “good luck!” It falls into line with other bad practices by dev relations (ok I am old)

Interesting thread on spatial personas.

What I want is a augmented reality cone of silence that others can see me hitting my head on the thing, hear what I am saying (because it doesn’t actually work) but the chief and I are oblivious

Just tried out a 4 person FaceTime with the new Spatial Personas and I think I can say, this device finally has a solution for a problem that I haven't figured out how to solve (more conveniently) with my other devices:

Multi-threaded conversations

steveriggins,
@steveriggins@mastodon.social avatar

@charliemchapman can I move myself in the room while sitting? Imagining people with disabilities or someone who has a larger house and I’d have to go across the street to talk to them heh

steveriggins,
@steveriggins@mastodon.social avatar

@charliemchapman if I reset people, on my end, how does the Spatial Audio work? Do they move in all three environments? Can we suddenly hear the others better?

System would detect paused content on external devices and show ads on top.

Smart contact lenses demonstrated that generate power from light, tears, and blinking.

A health monitoring holy grail, smart contact lenses will (hopefully):

  • monitor health metrics like glucose levels
  • deliver drugs related to eye diseases
  • assist with augmented reality

The power problem was a major stumbling block, so this is a big step forward.

A few months on, I have to regrettably say the Vision Pro is kind of useless to me.

I really wanted it to be more like my Mac or iPhone, but it’s very much like the iPad: A fantastic device conceptually, but I never really find myself reaching for it.

steveriggins,
@steveriggins@mastodon.social avatar

@sdw @konstantin I am in the same boat, except when it comes to wanting to watch something while Elizabeth is using the TV, or while I am taking 3D cad lessons. I use the VP for the latter to have stuff spread around the room

Wait, I cannot change the URL for an iCloud Keychain password entry? This seems like a massive flaw nobody talks about. I have to create a new entry and guessed at the website because the app is a lame web app with a fake input form, and now I have something that I cannot autofill on their sign in screen

    I love Ivory, I just can’t help make it better. Am going to use this as a learning tool for SwiftUI and performance, as the scrolling hitches quite a bit on the Vision Pro only.
