I just got my first real taste of the power of #Mastodon. I wanted to reply to a post on the new #StarTrek#Lemmy instance & was lamenting the need for another social account. Then realized I can copy the url of the post into the search box here & view it like a Mastodon post. I can reply & my reply shows up on the original Lemmy thread.
Wow! 🤩
All we need now is a button that opens it in your currently logged in fediverse instance. 🤔
Okay, Mastodon friends, I rarely ask for amplification about my day job, but I personally pushed for my employer to make a big investment in enabling the fediverse, and I'd love for everyone to show that the support is appreciated. On June 28, you can join us for a (FREE!) hands-on conversation about how the Fastly team worked to support @Mastodon while the service was under a massive DDOS attack. Everyone who cares about scaling the fediverse should join: https://learn.fastly.com/security-mitigating-ddos-and-traffic-surges-with-mastodon@devs

I hate that mass shootings are so common now that, so far, they’ve coincided with two of my vacations. The mass shooting in El Paso (my hometown and where my parents were living) happened during my first trip to Hawaii and Uvalde happened when I was at Disneyland.
The news is hard enough to deal with, but it’s even harder to try and hide my anguish from my family. To try and at least spare their happiness.
I've started using @obsidian of late, and I'm really liking it so far! It's the first note-taking app that I've not given up on after a few days, angrily going back to my paper notebook in disgust at technology. 😂
@whalecoiner@obsidian Wish there was better support for WebDAV, because I do really like it. But I'm mostly sticking with Joplin until that gets figured out.
In Extreme Programming, we picked a new pair programmer every day. I decided that was nonsense, and adopted Pete. We paired for the next nineteen years. He preferred the title "alpha" to "principal staff," but he shared his opinions whether you wanted them or not. He logged off this morning. Rest easy, friend.
I wonder if people threatening to block Facebook's/Meta's new ActivityPub-compatible social media network also automatically block emails coming from gmail.com.
@stefan I get that there's plenty of gatekeeping around here. And anyone who would immediately block any corporate presence is being silly (IMO).
But you can't ignore the reality of a corporation. Certainly Google (with their history of embrace/extinguish) would get blocked by many if they picked up ActivityPub. And so will Facebook (with their history of abusing everybody's personal data, even if you're not a customer).
On my personal instance I'll probably block first, ask questions later.
@atomicpoet@fediversenews Does it also notify users who interacted with the post? I really appreciate getting those notifications even though 99% of the time it's just a grammatical fix.
