I asked ChatGPT another BS engine to calculate Google’s BS engine’s failure cost and it came up with about $10.4 billion. Is that accurate who knows? Hilarious ? 💯

Cost calc below from ChatGPT

“Total Estimated Financial Impact:

• Ad Revenue Loss: $2 billion
• Increased Operational Costs: $300 million
• Legal and Regulatory Costs: $600 million
• Brand Damage: $7.5 billion

Total Estimated Loss: $2 billion + $300 million + $600 million + $7.5 billion = $10.4 billion”

Last year I told my team we have to get off because this train wreck would likely happen and I wasn’t ok with info leakage like that of our private and customer chat. Sadly as we are finding out it happened. We had picked and found it was fine as a replacement but the migration has been a slow effort. At least now it will accelerate.

A student shared this with me about their upcoming graduation ceremony. It's the sign of the times that of course we would use during graduation so it too can mispronounce names.

Sigh.

So if I understand these wearable AIs approach I am supposed to carry a second super cheap phone that is specifically for AI around and that will help me not take out my primary smart phone?

Cool cool got it. One question.

Can I get a third phone with special software for to make phone of the second phone so I don’t have to take out the first phone to dunk on them?

If your go to assumption when making a component is just is some emitted slop and the component is the most important part as opposed to the HTML and other core web tech the browser uses as being the ultimate point of the component you simply are doing web dev wrong and working against the platform.

Some days I feel most of the“modern” community acts like Chemists who think atoms are passé and compounds are all that matter.

Be it nfts, various crypto schemes, react, metaverse, tailwind, etc. every single time older techies with common sense & a desire to test things we have seen a gap between the bullshit and actual reality. Now when we are doing it for things like LLMs and generative AI once again it is you are a cynic, a hater, out of touch, etc.

Computing is getting so unprofessional we simply don’t respect lived & earned expertise anymore. It’s ageism, grifting, and magical thinking taking over 😢

As an SWE Prof, I warn students about the MVP rush, that iteration can't fix releasing too early making you an R&D release for others and tainting initial users.

Today, I had a sad example with a possibly cool documentation platform, Butterdocs. It could be a contender, yet it lacks code formatting, code blocks, & has no embeds, so it is pretty much useless for its best target audience as it stands. 😢

TL;DR - Release software when it is actually ready not early because of start-up beliefs

Well LLMs prove for certain that if you are good enough at bullshitting people really will think you are super intelligent even though you have absolutely no idea what you are saying.

Twas the night before , when all through the lands techies were hoping soon to stop using their hands

The hot takes were pre written all with much care, with hopes that St. Jobs spirit would still be somehow in there

The nerds all nestled all snug in their beds, with VR visions not AI nor crypto danced in their heads.

My girl in her LuLus, and me with emails still, had just settled our selves for a long Netflix and chill.

A rule of the Internet is mess with an important enough person & suddenly the fantasy of online anonymity is cleared to reveal everything in this case so far showing the process and tools. The person responsible for the initial deep fake porn image of Taylor Swift likely has no idea what might be coming for them esp if TSwift's lawyers go after MSFT then I 100% guarantee that the image generating individual will be the patsy.

My interest in the NFL these days is quite low. I think the only thing I knew about this season is that Taylor Swift’s boyfriend was on the Chiefs and he is apparently going to the Super Bowl.

Btw this is not a but you are welcome to read it as such if you need a laugh.

More useful changes just keep coming.

There are plenty of other things like @scope, setHTMLUnsafe, and more so go read at https://webkit.org/blog/14885/release-notes-for-safari-technology-preview-185/ for the details.

Really enjoyed learning about JengaScript which is the game most “modern” webdevs play with these days.

Wanna play? First build your towering tooling and dependency tree. npm can set it up really fast for you. Now try to change or update things without toppling the whole project. Fun for all ages!

In an effort to develop some better ways to help students get into semantic markup and abstract thinking in I started playing with the Lynx browser again just for a demo and (re)discovered that many modern approaches simply kick it to the curb. Sure simple page can render but many sites are utterly pointless to use with it and many security appliances immediately nuke the connection.

One surprise Lynx renders some crazy 3 leftover element unimplemented elsewhere...crazy!
