I take pictures at SNP events sometimes. Here's John Swinney during an election in Partick a few years ago. He has a benign headmasterly vibe... One of the good guys I think. And he's about the most experienced government minister anywhere in the "uk".

There was a march for independence in Glasgow on Saturday.

I am proud to live in a nation where the leader of our government walked in this demonstration, this time with the strongly expressed special theme:

Scottish politics is SO refreshing... especially on the first warm sunny day of the year.

an impressionistic mixture of flags. "ceasefire now" and "Gaza emergency committee" text visible on banners and placards
a mixture of flags and slogans. Palestine and ceasefire now among the text visible here.
marchers and flags cross a city street an impressionistic image, made abstract by the mixing of multiple exposures

This is Traigh Beach near Mallaig. It's a good place to visit right out of season

The Ice Factory, Mallaig

It's the old "two photos mixed together" gag, this time mixed and then colour edited for a vivid impression wholly missing from the original view of these shabby industrial buildings on a drizzly saturday afternoon in February.

tomclearwood, to Geology

I took photos of these rocks, they're typical of the rock we saw around Mallaig. The daylight was diffused by heavy cloud, a soft neutral grey light.

Editing, I noticed this effect; simply pushing up saturation produces this structured colour, apparently unrelated to shadow/skylight.

could this be variations in micro-crystalisation during the metamorphosis of this billion* year old former mud stone? (That is a thing!)

the same cracked surface as the other photo but now it's transformed by colour, so that it doesn't seem like rock any more, it seems perhaps frighteningly vivid

I was shocked to find it was six months since I last put a bit of money towards keeping mastodon.scot chugging away...

So I've put that right!

Here's a rainbow over Loch Leven from yesterday's journey through the Highlands.

One thing about Scotland: Plenty of weather.

tomclearwood,

@Wen @FiveSeventeen
Misplaced weather? yes, "cold water delivered at speed down the back of the neck" was an example of this phenomenon on Sunday.

Humanity must escape Capitalism. Capitalism epitomizes a system rife with exploitation and inequality. Capitalism creates economic disparities, where a privileged few amass wealth and control resources at the expense of the marginalized many. Capitalism has an inherent tendency to commodify human labor, creating alienation and reducing individuals to mere cogs in the profit-driven machinery. In essence, Capitalism is antithetical to human progress and freedom.

tomclearwood,

@Radical_EgoCom
Capitalism manifests aspects of human nature. You can't change human nature so "escaping" capitalism seems... difficult. Could this be why it's never been done?

tomclearwood,

@HeavenlyPossum @Radical_EgoCom
Hobbes described pre-historic life as "continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short" and surely that's right. We can aspire to better, also how do you propose to get to a population of a million or so?

"Is this what is? The tech outpost, the US ally, the beacon of democracy in the Middle East? A country that kills journalists [30] and writers in surgical strikes [31]. That forces doctors away from ICU babies, leaving them to die and rot in their incubators [32]. Whose snipers shoot children and grannies in the head [33]" – extraordinarily powerful and courageous essay by @paulbiggar . Read it and weep.

tomclearwood,

@Peace_out_art @simon_brooke @paulbiggar If quoting from the bible means belief in the bible then I'm extremely confused about my atheism.

tomclearwood,

@simon_brooke @Peace_out_art @paulbiggar I was treated very badly by "christians" when I was a wee boy, I know the value of faith alright!
I'm so glad to live in an essentially atheistic society now, a little cult-ridden to be sure, but essentially, atheistic. Doesn't stop me "believing" in !

tomclearwood, to boston

I once visited Boston for an hour and half. There are some great modern buildings around the South Station, this is one of them.

The photo is labelled "noise is your friend" because as so often I've exploited the noise in this very zoomed in image as the raw material for the alteration in the edit.

The building is not really this colourful, unfortunately
