Kinda want to nap with these kinds of temperatures

tyil,

@dwarf What's stopping you?

tyil,

@dwarf You have colleagues who can pick up the work when you nap, don't you?

Finished eating.

I ate.

tyil,

@fbievan If you announce this kind of stuff you are legally obligated to provide information of what you ate. Pictures are not optional.

@adiz lol my bad - my tut client mixed up the threads.

The only alternative I see to Matrix right now is XMPP. I still run my own server. But it doesn’t come even close to compete with the number of available bridges (that’s actually the main thing I use Matrix for).

The only thing that can still compete with Matrix when it comes to bridges/integrations is still IRC+bitlbee. But that ecosystem is literally falling apart, it’s largely based on libpurple extensions that often haven’t been touched in years, and of course you can forget decent mobile-native clients.

Or maybe just run alternative servers to Synapse, but so far I’ve had a mixed experience with them - Conduit is definitely snappier, but I’ve had trouble to set up many of my bridges, which seem to be primarily designed for Synapse.

tyil,

@fabio @adiz Are you following slidge development yet? For me it offers pretty much everything I might need in terms of bridges except for , but Biboumi already exists to take care of that one.

Slidge doesn't look very mature yet, but given some time it may be the thing we were missing. I wouldn't mind some cleaner clients for desktop use either, but the existing options aren't all terrible at the least.

Short work week this week, but apparently it's also a holiday for some people today? Such luxury.

tyil,

@dwarf What kind of holiday is today? I know 4th and 5th are holidays, but those were also weekend days this year so it didn't matter

tyil,

@cnx @dwarf Excuse you I'm a fan of the k-pop girls specifically. The fact they make music is largely a bonus.

And in the Netherlands we sadly do not get bonus holidays if any of them fall on the weekends. The cattle needs to keep working.

tyil,

@cnx @dwarf Can Koreans legally only have sex on holidays or something?

tyil,

@cnx But you guys have regular weekends, right? Besides that, with how cute the average Korean girl is surely the men just get energy when they see them walking around?

tyil,

@dwarf @cnx We don't want you to feel left out!

tyil,

@dwarf @cnx It is a Monday after all, I have to do something to get through the day. Besides, I enjoy learning about different cultures!

tyil,

@cnx @dwarf

women also go to work

Bad choice tbh. For sexual purposes, however, the women don't have to put in as much physical labour as men, so it shouldn't matter too much to begin with.> most men wear a horrible haircut

This could be true, I don't really look at male Korean haircuts. This should be easy to fix, too. Hair grows automatically and you can reshape it as needed.> just weekends are obviously not enuf

Maybe for you young people but at my senior age its plenty.> why did thou leave @dwarf out of this convo tho

I gathered from his previous responses he did not wish to indulge in the sexual proclivities of the Korean population.

tyil,

@cnx This is correct, but not by my choice! I'm working on convincing the cute little indo girl that is currently considering herself my girlfriend to let herself become impregnated by me personally.

So far we've gotten to "next year" as a compromise for babytime, but she also wants me to visit Indonesia first so I can meet her parents in person.

I’m going down the wooden cutting board rabbit hole :bunowohop:

tyil,

@cnx That rabbit hole shouldn't be too deep, just make sure you get actual wood, not bamboo or anything. Then look for the right size for you, which depends on how big your kitchen space is and personal preferences. Buy some oil along with it to season the cutting board before use!

tyil,

@cnx All cutting boards drink up a lot of oil in their initial seasoning, it is a hidden cost when you buy one. I used almost the entire bottle of oil I bought with it!

But I think it was worth it, I have a nice, large cutting board now and its a joy to cut on. I have since also invested in higher quality knives, which makes the prep part of cooking much nicer in general.

We're looking for some new maintainers to join the org 👀

Our GTK port is currently minimally maintained, due mostly to our reliance on the Colloid theme as our base.

We'd ideally use a more flexible base, or write the theme from scratch. This means we'd welcome maintainers who have pre-existing knowledge with GTK theming.

More details can be found @ https://github.com/catppuccin/gtk/issues/164, or you can join the Discord for real time communication (https://discord.gg/catppuccin)

Boosts appreciated for visibility!

tyil,

@catppuccin If you're using your project is not worth supporting. Use a free software platform, and preferably drop while you're at it.

Ofcourse its a fosstodon user that goes hard on making sure as much proprietary garbage is used in their lives...

tyil,

@catppuccin is free software and has CI capabilities. Discussions in email have worked fine for decades, and still works for quite large projects.

As for real-time chat, still exists, and doesn't even need me to register an account to ask a question. There's plenty of good webclients to keep the barrier lower than Discord could ever do. Creating a bot for IRC is perhaps one of the easier tasks an aspiring programmer could work on. I have no clue what "forum channels" are supposed to be, but I'm quite certain it is not a required feature to develop software.

It seems incredibly bad faith to pretend these things don't exist or aren't known about.

Apparently even the European Data Protection Supervisor , can't find the funds for it's mastodon servers. Which is bizar if you think about all the "talk" about not relying on , a more independent EU, open standards, security, importance of reliable information etc.

https://www.edps.europa.eu/press-publications/press-news/press-releases/2024/edps-decentralised-social-media-pilot-end-successful-story_en

tyil,

@ErikJonker Have they considered using more resource friendly alternatives than ? There's plenty of choices available, and it seems pretty much all of them do a better job of staying relatively cheap.

The article also includes talk about , and hosting video is known to be rather expensive compared to hosting, well, just text and some images. It would be interesting to see more details on the costs and how it is attributed to each service.

Don't get me wrong... Microsoft's ability to block legitimate mail, allow spam through, AND still be a giant source of spam for decades is fucking epic. But Oracle is trying their best to compete. Lookout Microsoft, there's a new jackass in town!

tyil,

@jmhorner

rDNS, SPF, DNSWL, DKIM, DMARC, and SNDS

I had to go through all these hoops too, but only for the big providers. Regular email servers are generally happy without most or sometimes any of that extra work.> SMTP has NOT gotten better over the years!

I don't think SMTP itself will ever change, but I wonder how in your experience we could/should improve SMTP, or any other ideas on how to improve the protocols or ecosystems used in email.> services like Mailgun and Sendgrid

They're horrible, but they're too prevalent to apply any sweeping measures against. Lots of companies I order from use it for their verification emails too, for instance, which is a little sad.> IP reputation

I don't like the IP reputation system in general, IPs are too volatile to be a reasonable means of identifying who's sending something. I think the worst part is that most people seem to never "forget" the reputation assigned to a particular IP, even though the addresses aren't nearly as static as they were back in the day. If I want to get a new IP on my server I can do that in a minute or 2.
