Need For Speed Carbon is on paper, the perfect game; big open city, trimmed a bunch of fat, drifting is back and it's down winding canyons and cliffsides and you do them at speed fuck yeah, lots of car customization, a near exact version of the Most Wanted cops...

First time gray-boxing a 3D game and it's going rough. Big dreams but so far this process of miro->blender->godot feels leaden and unwieldly. Maybe need an intermediary step where I put sketches in miro.

Walt Whitman, on loving one's full self and being in the moment, wrote in 1855:

"Clear and sweet is my soul, and clear and sweet
is all that is not my soul."

And sitting here with the trees and the insects and the breeze, I do feel the universality of it. But against this ideal is War, which exists today as it did in 1855. I can't reconcile it.

John Donne wrote in 1623 "any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind" and perhaps that is a bridge between the two concepts

Techies! In my router log there are messages like this:

"[DHCP IP: 192.168.1.xx] to MAC address 00:aa:bb:cc:dd:ee"

Does that mean the machine connected outside the local network to a remote MAC address or is that MAC address inside the machine (eg the wifi card or something)?

Closest I get to a library that is "load bearing" is pygltflib, my python lib that handles 3D data in the GLTF format

It gets 40,000 downloads a month (mostly bots doing automated builds I suspect)

Mainly used by researchers for 3D proof-of-concepts (fads come and go -- image recognition, drone vision, NFTs, gaussian splatting, text-to-3D)

Maintenance is 4 days a year. Would I trust lives on it or use it in a corporate setting? Maybe? It's pretty clean and not far off industry best practices

The VFX legend worked on TRON (systems programmer), Total Recall (cgi director, for which he won an Academy Award), Last Action Hero (SPI VFX sup), Supernova, Dunkirk, First Man (DNEG additional dfx supervisor), MIB International...

He was 69.

The abusive behavior that was being used to manipulate Lasse Collin into bringing on more maintainers for went unnoticed because abusive behavior in Open Source communities is so pervasive. In context, we can clearly see it was part of an orchestrated operation. The "xz backdoor" hack unfolding in the linux world tonight is SO EFFING interesting. Obviously the full facts are unknown but on the surface it looks like a beautiful piece of bastardry. A multi-year long con of code commits with multiple levels of social engineering attacks

The hacker updated the SECURITY.md file on the project to apparently try and slow down reporting by anyone who might stumble upon the hack, diverting them to email instead of a public issue tracker.
