There's a new map style on OpenStreetMap.org! The Tracestrack Topo map from @tracestrack.

It's a mix of osm-carto and OpenTopoMap. It has many improvements: more tag support (busway, embankment, cuisine, solar plants, aquaculture, pitch, sea, tree etc.), CJK fonts, etc. There is
also better internationalisation: country specific road shields, peaks
using imperial system in the US, hierarchical place rendering in China, etc.

@openstreetmap @tracestrack Sieht gut aus, hab gerade online geguckt. - Ich finde ab und zu Fehler. Gibt es eine Android App mit der mensch offline Fehler speichern und später zu euch hochladen kann oder reichen Euch Grafiken mit markierten Fehlern und Beschreibungen? Offline weil ich absichtlich kein Smartphone, sondern ein WiFi-Tablet mit GPS-Empfang habe.

@tinoeberl @SaraL Die Temperatur ist auch just in diesem Zeitraum angestiegen. Da hilft keine Schadensbegrenzung, wir müssen anders mit den Ressourcen des Planeten haushalten. Die Technik dafür gibt es längst. Das Mindeste sind klimafreundliche Konsumentscheidungen. Schade nur, daß die Poltik, die am meisten umsteuern könnte, eher alles aussitzt, bzw. den Absahnerlobbyisten nachgibt.

Ich habe sehr lange (mehr als nur 1 Jahre) rohe Kichererbsen gegessen, bilde mir auch ein, daß Sumokämfer selbiges tun. Kann aber falsch sein. Ich könnte sagen, mir hat es nicht geschadet, aber vielleicht ist Vorsicht doch besser.

@heiseonline ist absolut nicht auszurotten... am besten, wir schrauben technisch alles auf die 50er Jahre zurück, damit jeder mitmachen kann. Es steht sicher noch viel Technik in Kellern, auf Dachböden und bei Trödlern rum. Leider geht das Zurückdrehen mit dem Klimawandel nicht so einfach.

... and sort of a try to start a hopefully not-too-meta discussion: What are the hive minds thoughts on making the more attractive to particular groups of interest? Point right now: With the rise(?) of Bluesky and the demise of Twitter, I see quite a bunch of bubbles I used to participate in make their way over there, either directly from X or by having a "temporary deviation" across mostly Mastodon. Few of them stayed. Already by now, with this being a closed invite-only platform, there are some feeds (art, photography, writings, lyrics, architecture) over there that are more populated with posts and thoughts dealing with said topics than I manage to find on Friendica or Mastodon, and now I'm a bit unsure. Somehow, there was hope the could be the "more human" network for actual humans, but it seems that for (quite?) some folks, it doesn't scratch the actual itches they have, or it doesn't work out in this way or the other. So, wondering: Does it need more "awareness" for what particular crowds need to feel home here? Do "we" need to be more open in understanding why and what for people are using "social media" or "social networks"? Or will it be just okay to accept people having accounts on a plethora of different systems for different purposes? (Personally, I really enjoyed the idea of having a lot of my former Twitter/X crowd around here, and seeing them vanish from my timelines again, being in need to interact with another network again feels like a step back but not sure - maybe that's only me?)
Thoughts appreciated.

@wolf @z428 Ich sehe daß positiver. Das Fedi existiert ja schon ne Weile. Ich war fast von Anfang an auf GNU Social, hab sogar noch Pump.io ausprobiert. Es war immer eine Spielwiese für Nerds, aber nun wird es relevant. Dazu hat @ulrichkelber als Budaschü nicht unwesentlich beigetragen. Ich bekomme hier mittlerweile meine "Weltnachrichten" fast genau so gut, wie einst auf Twitter. Sind ja viele Wissenschaftler, Institutionen und Aktivisten hier. Das wird sich langsam weiter entwicklen und geht nicht mehr weg. Mastodon mit seinen eingeschränkten Funktionen und "Klumpenbildung", Föderationsproblemen etc. finde ich aber eher wenig hilfreich. Forks werden kommen oder sind schon da.

I solved the issue for me. You need color definitions in your GPX file like this for Organic Maps:

My Hoya linearis, that is hanging in the garden all summer, usually blooms when I take it inside in the autumn when the night temperature reaches about 5°C.

This year it has decided that now is the time. It actually suits me well because the flowers are too heavily perfumed for my bedroom.

Now I'm keen to see if there are any Danish night insects that take interest in the flowers, so that I may have some seeds. It would be great to start a new pot from seeds, wouldn't it.

I believe people on the are more likely to add alternative text to the images they post than on any other popular social media platform, that's great for . But it isn't the end-all-be-all of it. For example, when one of my contacts posts in German or Finnish or Farsi, I can copy the text and plug it in a translator to figure out what they meant.

However, when they share a picture including text in the same language, even if they transcribed the text in the picture in the alternative text attribute, I can't access it on mobile at all, and even on desktop I can't copy it from the default popup on mouse hover.

I tried to dabble with to reveal the alt-text attribute value using pseudo-content, but it doesn't work since we're dealing with an <img> which is an empty element by definition. Is there any other way to expose this attribute value other than just parse the text in the post body directly?

@hypolite The old IE needed the alt attribute for the popup/tooltip, but that's history.
