Never forget.

Cory Doctrow (@pluralistic), writing on pluralistic.net:

"Together, they represent a multi-front war on the very idea that four billion people should have their digital lives controlled by an unaccountable billionaire man-child whose major technological achievement was making a website where he and his creepy friends could nonconsensually rate the fuckability of their fellow Harvard undergrads."

Dear people who think George Galloway is cool - and I know you're out there - today he's announced that the Workers' Party has a policy to leave NATO, and that he doesn't think children should be taught that gay relationships are "normal" in an interview with Novara Media.
Have a word with yourselves.

Edit: Here's a link to the Novara interview with Galloway, with thanks to @virek for providing it.

Underwater cables in Red Sea damaged months after threatened to do just that - https://www.theregister.com/2024/02/27/red_sea_cables_houthi/ "Yemeni rebels thought to lack the ability to damage submarine cables, but here we are"

I'm keen to get feedback or thoughts - have you used Inoreader?

My 12 month subscription to Feedly ends soon and I'm considering making the switch...

Hoping for some Fediverse reviews!

x

virek,

@Daojoan When Google News pulled the plug, I switched to Feedly initially. After a couple of years, RSS apps on the Mac and iOS started to implement iCloud syncing, negating the need for an aggregator (who knows what they do with that data 🤷‍♂️). I switched with NNW (and sometimes Reeder) using iCloud syncing and haven't looked back.

The thing about ActivityPub, the greatest social networking protocol ever devised, is that it's so obviously brilliant and resilient that it should be the backbone of every single social service going, but also if Threads interfaces with it even slightly, the whole thing will collapse and be full of ads and unusable. That's just how it works and the people pushing this sort of crap are not catastrophising at all. #meta #fedimeta

virek,

@Bloonface It is, of course, the same “embrace, extend and extinguish” strategy that Microsoft executed to perfection when we were all a little more naive at the time. Now we know, we should be able to do something about it.

I have to admit this year has been destructively stressful for me. I wish I could feel some sense of accomplishment about work done, but it's just not there, just this sense of a million other things that are urgently overdue and another million I'm forgetting.

virek,

@Gargron How can we help?

Study finds no “smoking gun” for mental health issues due to Internet usage

“The best data... suggests that there is not a global link between these factors,.

virek,

@arstechnica ‘… causal connection was “absent” without more co-operation from tech companies’ (emphasis added). It's a pretty big “however,” and one completely glossed over by many.
