Let’s play a game. What single letter or glyph is the best to use when comparing different typefaces? Not a word, a single letter, or a glyph.

withoutclass,

@rands I and l. If these two look the same the typeface has utterly failed.

@unixbhaskar Nice! Yea I recognized the end of the emerge sync and then got sad I couldn't see the package count :D

So I’ve given it a few weeks and I’m totally into for my notes. Capturing stuff is easy and I’m already programmed to save changes with c-c c-c from magit commits.

However, I have yet to use the backlinks, using search always seems to give me what I want. Maybe that will change when I have thousands of notes?

withoutclass,
@withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@techflails for me, backlinks didn't kick in until I started breaking my notes down, especially book notes, or more general ideas that I wanted to keep in a focused/specific note. Also my DnD characters notes which I use to be their "brain" :)

    @fox now I'm wishing I could read French because I'm looking for something just like this

    It's stupid how selfconcious I get when I know I write with a girl/woman I just start to second guess myself all the time deleting winkey face smilies because I'm afraid of being creepy, not sure if it makes sense, either I'm doing something right, or I'm just a weirdo :p

    withoutclass,
    @withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @sotolf it's difficult because you can't control how your message is received. All you can do is deliver it with your best intentions, and if it's received differently than your intention, address it with honesty. If anything the fact you feel this way reveals you care.

    Learning

    Because i set my pc to be only without X. . . i felt need to have strong alternative to word processor.

    Now i think environment can be really useful. Not having access to libreoffice forces me to find decent replacement for everyday life doc writing.

    Ofc. i could go easy way and install word processor on old laptop ... but that means no real gain... without need, or any other motivation it's hard to learn anything.

    less is more.

    Horrible air to breathe today. (Only took a short stroll with a mask on.)

    Flattering hazy light for bunnies and older buildings apparently, though .

    1910's high school building in Chicago. Neo classical column front, framed by a tree in the front and one on the right. The main building shows up in the background..

    @CaroltheCrone@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    The air quality in is currently the worst in the world.

    Yet outside, everyone is out without masks. Little kids, old people, everyone.

    Why?

    I'll tell you. Because no "likes" masks. No one is telling people to protect themselves.No one wants be different.

    Yet everyday in Beijing and in Japan, people wear masks all the time.

    We're stubborn and ignorant.

    withoutclass,
    @withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @CaroltheCrone attributing intent to people when you don't know is unwise. Perhaps they forgot their mask at home. Maybe they ran out.

    mgorny, to random

    We surrounded ourselves with walls and fences. Put locks on our doors and bars on our windows. Trained dogs to bark at strangers. Installed security cameras and motion sensors. Put armed guards at the exterior.

    Why does the peak of our resemble prison so much?

    withoutclass,
    @withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @mgorny most of the media we consume is fear mongering so it's little surprise that people are afraid of everything. We live in the safest time ever to be a human, but everyone is afraid.

    I would love it if y'all would share with me the kindest media you know of. TV shows would be perfect, but I'll also take books/movies/podcasts/etc, anything as long as it's accessible to a blind person.

    I'm not sure how to be more specific about what I'm after, just...narratives where the driving force is kindness. People striving to be good to each other, to better the world, that sort of thing. Stories with big hearts. Any genre.

    Boosts appreciated.
