Always magic tax cuts, they don’t have a single original policy.

If they want to talk about black holes they should start with the ones in their hearts.

Tax cuts and causing misery, that’s their manifesto every single time.

Yet more Tories to join Labour.... but only those with 'purpose'.... say Wes Streeting.

Sure they might turn away some token nut-jobs (but they'd be unlikely to seriously want to cross the floor), but the fact that they are taking anyone from this demonstrable corrupt, craven & toxic party will (and does) upset many....

And then of course there is the question of motive.... their 'purpose' will be to farm the opportunities Wes & other afford them.

My view is he’s trying to break the taboo of switching from Tory to Labour. If he can do that then the Tory vote might collapse further.

Ideally the Lib Dems should be out fishing for Tories too.

There were practically zero small boat crossings before Johnson became PM, it’s a Tory manufactured crisis.

Fixing all the things they broke will do the trick.

I find it weird that so many in the poll says it’s “unacceptable”. I get that many think it’s not suitable for them, but how do they conclude it’s unacceptable for others. Just moralising about others that’s so unnecessary.

It’s quite noticeable that the Cass report considers the increase in people requiring support as a problem to be fixed.

It considers young people becoming better informed and feeling freer to speak about who they are as something negative to be shut down.

This summary really is dire reading. A concerted effort to prevent transition, and ensure every other diagnosis is used before accepting transition.

Bizarrely, this snippet is used to indicate that social transition is a cause not a sign they’re trans:

I always imagine the defence is an easier transition from rugby. The offence playbook is a huge barrier, whereas defence is a bit more about reading and reacting. Plus I always think it’s easier to spoil than create.

Seems like too big a risk given the improvements over the years for the clubs and country.

I’m not up to date with the tier below the pro, but I think they had a recent reorganisation, and as long as the pathway to pro is strong there they shouldn’t need to change much.

This is one of those "thank god some journalists understand the history of antitrust" moments. One small quibble: Allison says, "I’m not really sure Apple owes the DOJ a thank-you card for making the iPhone possible", but Gates himself noted how, distracted by antitrust, Microsoft's ability to compete in smartphones was curtailed. They might not have stopped Apple, but they might well have been able to stop Android.

@ianbetteridge
That’s a bit disingenuous from Gates. They had a huge head start with their Windows Pocket PC, and alongside Palm, Blckberry and standard phone manufacturers they were caught cold by the success of iPhone and had to start again.

If anything it was their existing success that made them slow to react, something Android didn’t have to worry about.

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@ianbetteridge
It’s disingenuous because he’s trying to blame the DOJ for his own shortcomings.

Fear of litigation isn’t what stopped them improving or changing their product, they thought they had a strong position and were complacent.

As defined the new rules should prevent the Tory party accepting money from someone who wants to shoot black women MPs.

As the Tories are keeping the money I’m guessing the new rules are not meant to be obeyed by themselves.

Another silly article having a go at officials.

It literally says this “Once the referee’s call used to be sacred” whilst complaining that the referee wasn’t overturned.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/feb/11/scotland-france-try-rugby-union-six-nations

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@philippsteinkrueger
My problem with articles like this, they’ll criticise either way. This protocol was created to back the refs.

What they don’t seem to get is that there is no perfect protocol that works in every single case.

Constant bickering over ref decisions doesn’t help rugby, there were plenty of other reasons Scotland didn’t win.

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@philippsteinkrueger
That’s what happened, the ref on the spot made a decision, the TMO couldn’t confirm it was wrong.

We may all have felt the ball touched the grass but the TMO could only use what was visible. So the refs view was trusted.

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@philippsteinkrueger
Might have been a hand, we couldn’t see.

The protocol used to let the TMO decide and they complained about that too. They said the ref should not be overridden unless they were without doubt because decision go made then someone found another angle or a photo.

Far better to focus on the rugby not the refs. We’ve had plenty of evidence that criticising refs leads to some really bad reactions, it needs to stop.

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@philippsteinkrueger
Like I said, it used to be the other way until that was shown to not work in every situation.

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@philippsteinkrueger
But TMOs make mistakes too. There were exactly these debates before. They’d argue that the TMO shouldn’t be allowed to overrule the ref when there was no video proof the ball did touch the ground.

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@philippsteinkrueger
But this is my original point, you have to let the officials make their decisions, the TMO will make mistakes, refs will make mistakes. Giving the ref precedence allows the game to flow better, so we go with that.

Mistakes are always made but officials are always “right” because that’s how the game works. Save the articles for understanding the game.

zzypt,
@zzypt@mastodon.online avatar

@philippsteinkrueger
You seem to be asking for all decisions to fit with your view to be correct.

I’m suggesting that even this very decision would be debated whichever way it went. No pleasing all of the people all of the time.
