It’s disappointing to see some of the larger subreddits going public with a ‘what’s the point?’ tone. Most are staying private, but some aren’t. As if Reddit doesn’t exist solely because of its user generated content. If enough subs permanently shut down, they’ll be forced to reconsider their API position. Social...
IMO, Reddit doesn't need to die for us to have a good time. Let it be for now.
I'd advise to wait and see what happens when the API access is finally price hiked to see what the different subs to to be fair.
Once the federation starts working properly, we'll have plenty of other people and subjects to interact with and Ernest could probably do with a breather the way that the site has been hammered the past few days...
Tl;dr; expansion pretty much change whole game, reworks core game mechanics and adds whole new district. Plus Idris Elba and more of Keanu with expansion having almost as much lines as core game.
I always thought it was a pretty smart idea on Reddit's side to have the posts and comments be automatically upvoted by their author, saving them the tough choice between playing fair or boosting their initial reach a little; and if you had particularly low self-esteem, this enabled you to reduce your own points by not one, but...
Not fussed either way, if someone wants the little boost from the initial +1 they see from their own upvote, more power to them.
I'm happy starting at zero and seeing where the community takes me.
WTF Actiblizzard.
First you take overwatch (that I paid for) away from me.
Then you foist Microtransaction laden Overwatch 2 on me, making the game worse in the process,
Now you pull this shit?
I've finally finished my exams, and now finnaly have some time to play. I was wondering what games I should try out? I usually end up playing for 30 minutes before losing my attention span, so I'm looking for a very immersive and simple to get into game. Anybody got any suggestions?
Even if all this ends up being a niche thing, I’ll still get my social fix with likeminded randoms on the internet, hopefully with less doomscroll.
I’ve certainly been more interested in commenting here vs Reddit, just because it seems far less toxic, the slight wrong thing posted on Reddit and the pile on was a real danger.
Seeing many, many posts where simple questions were asked by newcomers seeking help with the obligatory blind downvote is awful for newbies.
Interested to see where all of this leads to and very appreciative of what Earnest has achieved.
I miss the weird old web. Handcrafted html. Webrings. View counters. Frames. Works best in Netscape Navigator. Watching pictures download line by line. Java applets. Chat rooms. There were certainly problems, but the whole space felt limitless and fun - not just repackaged corporate, SEO, and ad riddled garbage...
The good old days of dialling up, searching for something in Dogpile or Excite and not getting slammed by endless articles full of referral links and SEO spam. You’ve truly hit a nostalgia nerve for me there and made me raise a smile.
The worst I remember back then was random icq spam…
I was initially introduced to Mastodon a few years ago by a close friend and picked up on it quickly given the benefits of not having to deal with advertising, or being shown what a mega-corporation thought I should have to see through algorithms. I have since found a great instance over on cupoftea.social that promotes quality...
Decided to call it quits after the disaster that was an AMA, saw the alternatives suggested by other likeminded people who were pissed off with Reddit and decided to give this a go.
Fully removed all comments/posts and my account from Reddit before I moved then signed up here without a hitch.
Tomorrow is going to be interesting on the other side, let’s see what it does.
It's been mostly positive TBH, might be because the fanfest stream is normally something you have to sign up to.
Had it been Twitch or YouTube chat, I'm sure it would be all toilet worthy.
I used to append Reddit to all my google searches because I generally found the answer to most things were somewhere on the site but most recently I’ve found myself interacting with Bing chat to get most things done and so far, it’s not let me down.
I never thought one of the first places I’d turn for information was Bing but their GhatGPT like features are better than what I’ve seen of Bard.
Of course, if all else fails I’ll revert to a standard Google search and normally find what I’m after but my habits are fast changing.
Tomorrow at 1pm EST is Microsoft's summer game showcase. Anyone have any bold predictions? Praying for something that has likely no chance of being shown?...
Personally I think not having karma limits is nice currently! I understand why they were used but grinding karma as a lurker on reddit was frustrating.
Right now, I’m playing the early access version of Baldurs Gate 3. I’m getting ready to put it down (frustrated: BG3 has the potential to be good, but without controller support, I’m getting really frustrated with the UI. ) and switch to Yakuza Like a Dragon....
I just saw an email from Buy Me a Coffee. Not just one. I went in, and I'm truly shocked. Thank you all for the support; I would like to thank each and every one of you individually someday. Honestly, I don't know what to say. The account balance is $350, which will definitely allow me to develop kbin faster or at least not...
Sad to see what’s happened with Reddit but actually excited to try something new here.
It may take off, it may not but I haven’t been involved in something new online in a long while as most of the main online spaces are pretty much entrenched with the few big players.
The thing I’ve found most odd is now that I’ve uninstalled BaconReader, is the way I instinctively went to where the icon used to live on my Home Screen, such a weird feeling.
Was I doing it out of pure habit or was a little addicted? Cutting it off like this is making me think I just went on BaconReader/Reddit without actually wanting to… Worrying when I think about it.
I’ll see if that behaviour sorts itself out now it’s gone.
Before I did mine I nuked all of my comments, some of which were highly rewarded help posts that must have been picked up by google as I was regularly getting random awards for posts made years ago.
I’m not interested in having the good advice/posts I’d made in my own time driving even more traffic to such an awfully run site via google.
The way they’ve treated 3rd party developers is appalling.
The way they don’t care for the very users that put good posts/content on the site that makes others gravitate to it is absurd.
The AMA yesterday that could have put many peoples concerns are rest was an absolute joke.
I loved helping others and especially loved receiving help from other likeminded people when I was stuck but for all the great people that do post in some of the subs, I can’t tolerate they way they want it run.
As someone who used to love r/selfhosted and all the stuff posted on there I'll have a look at hosting my own instance when I get the time to figure out how it all works.
I didn't even think about the privacy/tracking aspect. My Pihole isn't blocking anything and my Ublock isn't blocking anything. This is quite refreshing to see.
Describe a game in 5 words or less, and see if anyone can guess it.
I'll go first. Deranged Spiderman with guns
I think we should (politely) message major hobby subreddits that went public to go private again. It's important to continue the protest.

A lot subreddits end their blackout tomorrow. Will you go back to Reddit, or continue with kbin and the Fediverse?
I haven't used Reddit at all since the blackout began. Even if they change course, the Fediverse is growing on me, and I think I'll stay here....

for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
For me it feels like breaking up with someone after many years. At the same time, I feel a bit dirty mentioning the name in the post title.
Just woke up after a day offline and after seeing the mess i decided to jump ship
In response to the disastrous Spez AMA, /r/Videos have announced that they will permanently shut down on 11th June, one day ahead of the planned blackout (old.reddit.com)

What has everyone been playing lately?
