Alright I really thought I had cracked this nut, but some of these are still eluding me. I went on a run of subscribing to a bunch of remote communities and felt like I had really mastered the fediverse in theory and in execution... then I was humbled....
For example, I could search "best blender reddit" and browse tons of threads and gather advice. Is there an equivalent we can do in the future with Lemmy/Kbin?
is it possible to mute instances or communities as opposed to straight up blocking them? making sure they dont show up on your /all/ page but not removing the ability to view any and all new content when its linked via different community...
also, is it possible to move the community/magazine description to the top of the page rather than the bottom, as infinite scrolling makes it a bit tedious to unsubscribe or subscribe to communities
Not sure if it works for everybody but on mobile a tap on the top left kbin logo opens the sidebar so you don't have to scroll all the way down.
Uh.. that's unfortunate because many will just interpret it as federation being bad and will go back to reddit preaching against fedi.
That being said it could also be a reason for admins to have conversations about how to deal with these migrations and which moderation tools they need.
@Nepenthe I think on #kbin as it looks right now a microblog post could be easily missed if the magazine is very active but the thing is that when federation works they could also go on all the federated microblogging instances and on the home of the followers. This way they could get "points" from favs and boosts and be more visible here as well.
They could also be useful to comment realtime events, even though this will probably be a problem for the rest of the fediverse because here you don't need to put an hashtag and it's not easy for people to selectively mute them so they would probably mute the user.
I keep seeing people saying how easy it is to sub to Lemmy communities on kbin. I can bring them up on kbin just fine by copying the link on the Lemmy community, but how the heck to I subscribe to them?
This instance is still new so it fetches content little by little when users interact with external communities and this is also true for votes. There could be federation issue to fix, though and sometimes it takes time to sync.
In general, to see the real number or all the interactions of a post you can open it in the original instance.
On kbin select "copy url to fediverse" in the "more" menu and on lemmy it should be the icon with the fedi logo.
I'm no dev or admin but my understanding is that being fully synchronized is not that simple, both because it could be too demanding for small instances and because it's a topic that involves privacy for many that prefer to be less connected but when your instance is pretty active I think the amount of connections should be pretty decent anyway and if it's not you can visit other "federations" and import new stuff.

#kbin tip: if you have "Show top bar" selected in the sidebar settings and you are reading a thread you opened quickly without knowing the magazine/community you were in, the name appears as the first one after the dot, in bold.

I'm not sure if this could work with federation but personally I don't care much about favourites/like here... I'm not sure what's the benefit of knowing that a post has been "liked" by N people (in general, but specifically here).
One thing that came to mind is that when I see federated microblogging posts in the random magazine I wish I could "label" them to add them in a specific one so magazines could be curated by the community as well.
If something like this is possible maybe the "like" on the microblogging platform could mean that somebody put your post somewhere because it mattered, just like you can add any reaction on misskey/calckey and on mastodon it's just a like.

With all of the instances having different URL's, what's the best way to "google" a question and get Lemmy instance answers?
For example, I could search "best blender reddit" and browse tons of threads and gather advice. Is there an equivalent we can do in the future with Lemmy/Kbin?
So ... how are we going to interact with our reddit siblings?
Shall we embrace cross posting?...

Are communities from other instances bugged? Am I stupid?
Specifically, communities from lemmy seem to show lower post/subscriber counts here than on lemmy, and don't display all of the posts?...
