My name is edd grubberman and I approve of this message. Also if someone knows where I put my house keys, that'd be great.

lol well floridman might give florida a slight lead for being being better, because the sheer stupidity required makes his exploits funny for a second. Ted Cruz is just a mentally incompetent turd blossom

This might be a loaded question given my audience. But what are you all considering the ‘best’ general purpose desktop Linux distribution at the moment?

I’d like for a moment, if we can, to drop the tribalism, the evangelism etc. and try to be as objective as possible. Even if it pains you to say X distro has some really nice features that your current favourite doesn’t.

I run Windows, MacOS, Ubuntu, SUSE, Debian, Solaris, and RHEL frequently. I once ran a distro per week for a whole year, so I’ve seen some things. I have no horse in this race.

gorkx,

@SecurityWriter gentoo is the clear winner ^_*

I don't want to hear about your bots, builds, or bytes.

I want to hear about your cats, gin (or non-alcoholic libations), and hobby unrelated to computers.

Also what are you doing when you leave tech?

The just got spicier 🌶

now has 135,369 accounts. That is tracking with my expectations.

But while had ~7,000 accounts yesterday, it’s just shot up to 30,930 accounts today.

While Lemmy is the 5th most used server software on the Fediverse, Kbin is now in 10th place and it’s growing at a faster rate than Lemmy.

A few days ago, I predicted that the would result in 150,000-300,000 new accounts being created on the Fediverse. That expectation has already been met.

This is fundamentally changing the course of the Fediverse. It’s moved the Fediverse from being primarily about microblogging to having more eclectic use cases.

While the validated that decentralized social media can appeal to millions of people, the has validated that decentralized social media has man varied applications – both in the software and use case sense.

gorkx,

@atomicpoet what i'm reading is a "better" social media platform, is, for some reason getting slashdotted. lol. I just wish the common names for stuff wasn't sassbackwards. And the UI wasn't fugly on a stick over at lemmy. but Lemmy know how it's going.

It's wild to me that there's currently so much panic & fear about what might do to "destroy" humanity, yet - at the same time - so little attention to the way that human behaviors are already, knowingly, putting billions of people & global biodiversity at tremendous risk. 🌍

gorkx,

@Sheril LOL because Ai won't have any ***** to give going skynet. Humans had to at one point cared. Even it was how many times over they're a jerk.

“DeSantis currently has a net approval rating of negative 19 points….with 55 percent of respondents disapproving of him, compared with 36 percent who have a favorable view….”

People know evil when they see it.

Poor guy.

gorkx,

@georgetakei How in the hell do you get a negative approval rating? oO I genuinely don't understand this.

Fuck Reddit

After years of using reddit, i finally deleted everything including my account there. Personally, i am not affected by the api prices, BUT, i couldn't live with me supporting people, who see their userbase, moderators and creators as nothing but noise. The point i'm making? Greetings Lemmy. I joined a few days ago and i'm here...

gorkx,

Hi, i'm edd grubberman, and I came here when one of my anime subs went private. NGL I had no idea it was because WWF style royal rumble between the reddit admin vs users vs mods. kbin.social and lemmy reminds me a little of websites from back in the day. Constant 411, and 505 errors while some servers are trying to keep up. I wonder if the admin will demote the mods. I also wonder wth funny af high octane anime and popcorn movies to watch. and where the hell did I put my car keys?

gorkx,

Well a min karma and a CAPTCHA check to filter spam was only r/mildlyinfuriating . On the subs I'd lurk in Karma was abused and farmed. My "favorite" (ironically) was temp bans because some people couldn't and or didn't want to read. like I said, I mostly came from reddit because some subs I was using to fix a email problem. then I found out about how weird, and psychotic haufman was, and the entire clusterfuck for going public.

gorkx,

lol ok. so if I'm reading right: members of the Reddit v Mod Refugee's club is giving lemmy and kbin.social the old slashdot effect. And to keep the server from protesting the enormous number of newbies coming. The server admins decided to unlink from other servers who were like: uh what's up bro our instance are being spammed. and kbin.social said: : uuuuh, er uuuh helpme. ok let me turn of content sharing and check the logs.
But you say things should get better?
I'm guessing the specific dates it struggled were around the saturday to monday.

gorkx,

I'm surprised the admin haven't taken over and unprivated subs and demoted mods. Any guesses to when that'll happen?

gorkx,

any guesses to when the admin demote the mods?

gorkx,

Megaman, megaman2, streetfighter 2, streetfighter 2 chapionship eddition, metroid 1. zelda 1, zelda: a link to the past.

gorkx,

So basically to find the good stuff have to read what the op said.
