These people invested so much time and effort into their communities, I understand why they are doing all this to keep them

The numbers for the r/mildlyinteresting vote haven't been openly available and I think that they are important to spread. (lemmy.ml)

Reddit has called moderators actions “malicious” and against the wishes of the community members. The numbers tell a different story. These are COMMUNITY protests and marking them otherwise is simply misinformation from reddit staff....

When spez says "We don't want to show NSFW to users" they mean they don't care how many users voted, they are saying "We don't want to give a bad impression to users that will use Reddit no matter what".
They just don't care about anything else that isn't money, if they could replace Reddit users with tiktok users they would be thrilled, even if they lose 12+ year old accounts with thousands of comments.
With this I'm not saying the protest is useless, it has the power to basically kill Reddit if enough users participate in it.

Reddit activated a word filter that whenever you say "fuck spez", your comment won't show up for anyone else. I just tested it on ModCoord. they're also deleting spez memes from the subs they nuked lol

r/ModCoord: The admins in charge of demodded subreddits are mass-removing images of Huffman previously shared on them...

"boost" is a mastodon term, it's used there as a "retweet" so you just basically "retweeted" the comment, this only shows up on the "Microblog" tab.

I also made a similar bot, might be useful!, this one doesn't check every single post, only external links, I didn't want to repost original content or spam communities, so the post only gets one post per hour (which can be changed) and checks the community to see if there's a similar post there already (same link).

Edit: it uses the json page, and filters posts based on upvotes, downvotes, age, etc. It supports multiple subreddits and communities at the same time.

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...

📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW)

EDIT: GO DM MODS OF YOUR FAVORITE SUBREDDITS AND POLITELY ASK ABOUT MIGRATION!: something as simple as "Hey, I love this community but I no longer use reddit, will you guys be making a community on Kbin or other alternatives? Let me know please, thanks." will work!! We need more voices encouraging migration!...

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day where Reddit would remove entire mod teams.
I guess they were right when they said:

The r/WatchRedditDie moderator team regrets to inform our community that we have, in fact, watched Reddit die...

Reddit died and we watched it.

I wonder if the current userbase is enough to be self-sufficient and keep growing

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

I'm just glad this type of people will remain on reddit, don't try to convince them to come here lol. Let them stay in that shitty place, it's perfect for shitty people

Great post, really shows that they are acting in bad faith from the beginning

Anyone else enjoying the Internet better, now that they’re off Reddit?

Hadn’t realized how reliant upon Reddit I’d become for news and interesting things until after it turned to shit and I quit it. I’ve rediscovered RSS for ex., using reader apps to scan sources directly and read without all the noise—that actually came from someone’s recommendation here in the comments. I’ve found...

I've been doing so many things for kbin, it has literally reignited my passion to code. I'm having a blast

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

To me both lemmy and kbin got a very important push, it showed the potential of the fediverse to sustain communities.
The dip in activity is something expected, the platform is still in its infancy and will get more refined with time, eventually being able to retain non tech-savvy users.

I do have to give it to the moderators, they made this asshole show his true colors. There's no going back to Reddit now.

we have "sub-lemmys" but what we are missing for lack of a better term is "dom-lemmys", hear me out

What we're really lacking on the ui end is a way to see groups of identical communities that are on different federated platforms. Hence the idea of a dom-lemmy. The way it would work is lets say you search for a cat community called "cats", there's at least dozens of them out there already. Instead it would return the cats...

Any grouping of communities/magazines should happen client-side only. So that people can choose what to group.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

Right?, it feels rewarding to add the discussion, to help solve issues in the code (if you can), helping people navigate where they want to go.
At least for me, reddit failed in something, making me feel part of its community, kbin is succeeding at this so far.

Edit: Obligatory plug of other kbin instances for new users to join: fedia.io, readit.buzz, fediverse.boo,
By joining them you are spreading the load so we can keep all instances stable.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

But yeah keep going back to their site and watch their ads, that'll show them for sure.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

And just like that, Reddit told it's users that they don't give a shit about them

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

Hopefully this will be implemented soon on Lemmy, so people can find the content they want even if the instance is limited.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

Only temporary, kbin is designed to work with other federated places like Lemmy, however due to the amount of traffic is experiencing is disabled at the moment, otherwise the site would go down as it would not be able to handle the requests.

The official r/GlobalOffensive at Kbin (www.reddit.com)

As you may have already seen most of Reddit has gone dark including r/GlobalOffensive. We, the mod team of r/GlobalOffensive have created this alternative Counter-Strike community here for people who want to continue discussing Counter-Strike, bypassing Reddit's shenanigans....

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

Hello and welcome!, you should know that kbin.social is having some trouble propagating posts and comments outside this server, so this might not be visible in the fediverse yet, see here.
My recommendation is once this problem is solved, you create another post so it reaches more people.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

We can expect more changes like this, changes that will hurt the user and drive it off site.

Why are you not seeing as many posts from Lemmy communities on Kbin?

Hello! You may have noticed that the majority of posts and threads in your feed on Kbin are from within the platform itself. This is because the admin has activated Cloudflare DDoS protection which basically slows down requests to kbin, to prevent the website from experiencing downtime or becoming slow to respond....

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

Basically, when you search for a community on Kbin for the first time, it gets "saved" on kbin. However, it won't show you any posts that were made before you discovered that community. It will only display posts from the moment you joined and onwards.
The message is telling you that the community may not have all the previous posts, and if you want to see them, you need to visit the community's specific page or instance.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

I just don't see how driving out old users that have years and years of quality comments could be a good idea.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

Seeing that thread made me get over leaving reddit, I do have to thank spez for that
