One thing I do miss from deleting my #Twitch account is the #Music section. There are some really talented people there streaming music. Are there any people out there streaming music via #Owncast?
#PeerTube - a certain international #Wikimedia organisation is looking for a PeerTube to do live #streaming. Any proposal?
At the moment I'm inclined to propose https://video.linux.it that is hosted by the Italian #GARR non-profit consortium, and also because we have sysadmins there for whatever question/issue, and #FLOSS activists.
Thanks for any suggested PeerTube for this context
Edited: not limited to PeerTube indeed. Anything FLOSS and user friendly would be lovely.
@boz
Peertube is very lovely to host fedi video and it CAN livestream but #Owncast is built for the job.
App is under 10mb, single user, activitypub, live chat is a base part of the app. Follower live notifications.
I do not understand the Owncast iOS app. It shows the live streams in the Owncast directory, and once you click on it, the live stream will play at the top, and you will see some channel info below, but there’s no access to the chat unless you actually go to that website.
Also, the notifications have not been working for me. So at this point, I’m wondering what the point of the app is? What does it do that going to the website on my phones browser doesn’t do? #Owncast

My #faircamp , #owncast setup: A fanless industrial PC (Advantech ARK-2250) which also heats up (a small fraction) of this year's chilli and aubergine seedlings.
So every time I stream or you listen and download on faircamp the seedlings get a little bit of dissipated energy!
Still mulling over my approach to live video here on the #fediverse while the build streams are on hold for a few weeks.
Put the #owncast server on pause for a bit to give them time to get a couple more milestones under their belt, and haven’t yet activated live streaming on our #peertube.
I want to get the Frankie Play #vtuber stuff going again but not sure there’s any audience for it here. Here’s a recent Twitch VoD.
Interested in livestreaming to the #fediverse? #owncast is the thing. Not interested in setting up the VPS, installing, updating setting up encoding profiles yadda yadda...
I have one slot on my #streaming server currently available if you have a domain to use, my funds and non-obligatory donations keep it alive.
Hit me up on matrix if you are interested with your socials, current stream schedule if any.
Two years ago this week was my 1st federated stream with #Owncast and every boost and share since has been a vindication of the 85% viewer sacrifice I made when I quit Facebook. SUCK IT FACEBOOK
Event reminder, today Saturday 02 March, 2000 UTC.
Please join indie alt friends @allflowers for a watch party premiere of their new video for "Hey! This Way"
We'll go live with chat a bit ahead of the time with some Allflowers tunes as we assemble. We'll warm up at the top of the hour with a few of their other videos and roll into the premiere.
Hangout and chat with the band and RFF friends and artists if keen or just #joinIn and watch/listen.
A perfect chance to escape the feeds for a bit, interact with and directly support an awesome independent artist outside of the pressures of other platforms.
I've been working for a while on this, so I decided I should share it with the intranet, world, whatever this is. I'm not expecting it to do a lot, since owncast is largely unknown in the sphere where this might be useful, but here goes, hopefully someone has some kind of use out of it
what is this?
This is a program that reads #owncast chats for you aloud, using your system's text to speech engine. For windows, that would be tolk, so your screenreader of choice, while for linux, that would be speech dispatcher.
is this scraping the page?
Well, no, not really. Instead, it's more like the owncast client itself. This works by joining the stream as a bot, viewing chat as it comes in, then forwarding it to your screenreader or speech dispatcher
how to use it?
compile it(no binaries this time, sorry!)
you run it once from the terminal, and it will tell you what to do
a new file, called settings.toml, will appear in your folder. The variable names are pretty self-explanatory, edit them and run the program again
enjoy!
to exit, do so with ctrl+c, don't mind the error exit code, it's fine, you're fine, the world is fine, blame cargo, tokio or something like that, ok?
