Goodbye Reddit I guess? I have been a Reddit user for close to 17 years. 16y7mo to be exact. Today I logged in and I got the red banner that says my account is permanently suspended.
I never posted anything other than a few car pics, some game screenshots and a few comments in my Reddit life.
Never got into any discussions, never posted anything remotely against the Reddit content policy.
Never got a private message that is explaining why I got suspended (unlike it says in their article)
After my appeal, I got a basic automated message that I cannot reply, explaining that my appeal has been reviewed and it is permanent. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I have no clue why I’m banned, and no clue if my appeal ever got reviewed by a human.
The state of social media is going in deep :burning_poop: My prediction is that major social media conglomerates will screw or hurt their users one way or another and people will start living in their "cyber neighborhoods" instead of their massive "cyber megapoles".
This happened to Facebook, Twitter in massive scales. Maybe this is Reddit's turn now?
If Mastodon is Twitter, Friendica is Facebook, and Lemmy is Reddit, but they're all communicating together, is there any real need to make different accounts unless we want to try out different features?
I'm definitely a cat person, but this genuinely made me LOL. Make sure you click on the picture to see all 9 -- the last ones are the best. #funny#reddit#dogs
Removed all distracting apps from my phone.
Left only: telegram, books, pocket(really enjoy reading articles, thanks #Mozzilla) and thats all!
I still will use maps, #FireFox (for unexpected questions), and etc, but i removed all social media from phone(including #Mastodon and #Reddit). I will use mastodon and reddit but only on my desktop.
So I want to check how it will be going after one week! May be its just small step on my way to a #dumbphone
@predicterOfShroomsLight
unfortunately there aren't many alternatives. There is wallabag. But its not free (unless you host it yourself like I do, which I know isn't something everyone can do).
Beside that, I think just bookmarking pages like you normally would and then read it in reading view mode is the best option.
It was nice stumbling upon this #reddit thread about #QOTO some time back and seei g the overwhelming support for this instance from the wider community:
Dear Dr. Freemo: QOTO is a nice place to be on the Mastodon Fediverse, we are glad to be on QOTO, I must say that I personally equally enjoy the people on Mastodon Universeodon Instance as well, Supernova the administrator of Universeodon is a really nice person. So if we sound loyal to Universeodon we are, we first fell in love with Universeodon Instance; we find QOTO to be a great place. Good People Make The Difference, Universeodon & QOTO have good people.
We also believe that if we should violate the rules on either Universeodon or QOTO we will be treated fairly. We took a great amount of time and effort in choosing to decide to open accounts on Universeodon and QOTO.
We choose QOTO because we needed a home on Mastodon Fediverse for Free Peoples Free Press, we heard great things about QOTO from other news reporters who told us that QOTO is well run!
Is it just me or have discussions on #Lemmy / #Kbin (aka Reddit-like corner of fedi) become longer and deeper since #Reddit started doing a stupid with third-party client API?
@rysiek I have noticed that if I boost an interesting thread from Lemmy instance, people from all over the fediverse are more likely to join the discussion. I think it's more natural than a group-boost-bot. As for #kbin, at this stage, I am very careful about choosing the places I write about the project. This is also the time when everyone can express their opinion on how platforms should communicate with each other, so I invite you to discuss https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/3 ;)
@ernest@rysiek It pleased me to discover your interaction with Lemmy content, for me symbiosis is a very important thing as it allows unexpected and new things to occur - without the intentions of original creators or distributors.
This is why I consider ecosystems like the Fediverse very interesting and worthy of attention.
@edendestroyer I have a stale domain that I've been holding onto for over 20 years & I'm thinking about turning it into a #lemmy server. I think the name is perfect: ThatInternetPlace dot com.
Back before high-speed internet &before DSL, when the world was on dial up, we had a coffee shop &added high speed internet through a t-1 internet connection in 15-minute blocks as a service.
People started referring to the coffee shop as That Internet Place so we renamed it to That Internet Place.
