Looking forward to trying to trademark a Unicode symbol, in this case 𝕏 :) Maybe we should start using as the new Hashtag for everything and #X #𝕏 :) http://www.unicode-symbol.com/u/1D54F.html

Little tip for those on mstdn.social, masto.ai and (maybe) some other instances!

We have theme that looks a bit like the theme on :deadbird:

Just head over to settings and change the theme to 'Elephant'

Apply the theme you want

Just have to say this one more time: the whole #X thing continues to profoundly upset me. I left in Oct/Nov ‘22 and have been very happy here, but: i had a really good Twitter community of and academics and lost it all, because hardly anyone came here. And i do not understand how they are ALL continuing to use an ever more overtly fascist platform, along with majority. The very people who i thought were the good, critical ones. I know i shd accept it but struggle.

With the recent moves from , , and even , I think it’s becoming clear that ads are not a sustainable business model in the long run (and yes, I know I run a YouTube channel funded by ads 😅)

I took a look at a few examples, at how this decline is also making the web worse for everyone, at alternative platforms, and tried to imagine what an internet without ads to fund content creation and big platforms could look like:

Musk was going to push eyestrain-inducing "dark mode" on everyone, then reversed -
First he said he was going to force everyone to use dark mode on , which can be unreadable by people with astigmatism and others. I find it almost entirely unreadable. Then after an outcry he reversed and said it would be the default. Such an ass.

Reiterating this important point:

These were so-called "financial insecurity" voters.

They could afford to take off work for this trip. Could afford travel costs, lodging, dining, and drinks. Could afford specially printed T-shirts and flags. Could afford cameras, military cosplay accessories, weapons, and ammunition.

Their votes were not about financial insecurity to begin with.

I see (and enjoy) a lot of satisfied commentary on the End of and the rise of , and I’m very happy here. But if I’m honest, a great part of my former Twitter community is still there. Some of them tried Mastodon early and gave up quickly. None of them can be happy about Musk. Still — is there anything to be done?

Bluesky temporarily halts sign-ups because so many people are joining from Twitter (www.theverge.com)

Bluesky, a decentralized Twitter-like social network, is pausing new signups “temporarily” to try and resolve performance issues it’s been experiencing after Twitter introduced limits on the amount of tweets you can see in a day. Even though you still need an invite code to be able to join Bluesky, it seems that the influx...
