99.9% of jobs do not require urgency of any kind, really they don't. We've all had a boss who acts like someone will die if we don't hit some made up deadline by people who don't even do the job. No one needs their meal 1 minute faster or the paperwork before tomorrow morning. Your time off actually doesn't need to wait. Sometimes I think about how legitimately bad most businesses are at time management and hiring, and I wonder how they manage to exist at all.

@RickiTarr again, I'd bring up about a month ago some 17yo kid died on the job just down the road from me, because his boss was screaming at him to GO FASTER GO FASTER, and I'm permantly disabled because my old bosses kept saying GO FASTER

I used to have a long pinned post about how I got disabled, but I'll sum it up in under 500:

I grew up with a too-strong work ethic, I let my employers push me beyond what my fit-but-not-young body could handle, I got injured on the job, WSIB denied me twice, now I'm 9 yrs , 3 yrs , 3 yrs , I don't leave the house much, and everyday that I can get out of bed I consider myself very lucky.

Learn from my mistakes...they don't give a shit about you

I'm thinking about Willpower today! Humans seem to have decent short term willpower, but not particularly good long term willpower, for things they really want. Willpower doesn't seem to be an infinite resource, and is effected by stress, fatigue, and environment.

So what are your thoughts on Willpower? Have you given up something long term that you really loved? What is the hardest thing for you to limit in your life? What is the thing you always seem to cave for?

Just an FYI, this isn't a platform to shame people for bad habits, we all have something we struggle with, we all have different levels of stress, and grew up in different environments. Just for instance, I can smoke a cigar occasionally, enjoy it throughly, but never really crave nicotine, on the other hand, if you were going to tempt me with a loaf of homemade bread, some delicious BBQ, or a well made cocktail, my willpower is much more limited. Human brains and bodies are incredibly complex and no two people are the same.

@RickiTarr you have to rethink willpower when you get , as it turns your options from do nothing or do something positive but it takes energy, to do nothing but it hurts, or do something positive but it takes energy and also hurts so whats the point

I feel bad for asking this, and it blows my mind that this is even an issue, as I always thought better of the human race, but when you're in a long checkout line, and you turn around and look right at someone who has a cane or crutch, who is OBVIOUSLY struggling furiously to remain standing upright, please, please invite them to cut in front of you. It's just polite. It's very, very hard for people to even leave the house, but unexpected long lines are very very painful

@RickiTarr chronic pain. I spend a lot of time curled up trying not to scream until my throat is raw, and trying to find a way to explain to people that chronic means "chronic", not 'sometimes'
