Sometimes that's how they get into my work in the first place.

tries to think of a story that would fit last night's dream creation, a crocodile who was shoved through what the hero thought was an annihilation field, but was actually a chrono-evolution field, and now I have a sentient crocodile, walking upright, and asking me to call him Gavin, honestly, what's with these thoughtless heroes?

Should books include a content warning?

Books already contain content warnings by how they are categorised, their cover images, blurb, etc. Adult, Young Adult, Children's, Romance, etc.

This is where the author can give the reader a good idea as to what's inside. If you feel the need for anything more specific, you probably haven't written your back cover (or web-page description) properly, or you need to find a better cover image.

I bought an ebook like this recently.

The cover image was taken up by a particular superheroine from this novel series. Behind her is an Ominous Shape, too out of focus to clearly discern.

The blurb was all What's that behind her? and Will it eat her?

Spoiler Alert: in this book, she's a minor character, only present for about ten pages. Although the Ominous Shape does eat people, she never gets within a thousand kilometres of it.

At the Role-Playing Games club today, a fun debate. The whole campaign is on this ice-locked ship in the arctic: the DM introduced the possibility of sirens.

One player declares their character is ace and therefore immune to romantic seduction.

Not so, says DM these sirens call out with "whatever you desire most" ... another player wonders if, since their character is monk seeking enlightenment and the death of all worldly desires are they immune?

Apparently the sirens do enlightenment too.

I really hate "AI" search results. DESPISE them.

What it is, in the end, is a completely unsourced answer. You're just getting a couple of paragraphs as an answer to your query, with absolutely NO friggin' idea where the information came from.

If you cannot vet information, it is WORSE than useless. It can cause damage if it's wrong. We're already seeing some scary and dangerous "answers" from Google's AI for example.

I much prefer a list of normal Internet search results. Sure, some of them might be COMPLETE bullshit, but at least I can see WHERE the information is coming from, and decide what to trust based on the reputation of the sites in question.

Just... No thanks, Google, Microsoft, etc. Please remove this garbage that's making your services worse.

RIP Mars, 2010 - 2024
This morning I found Mars run over by a car. I miss him very much. We got him from the shelter and he showed his gratitude every day. He was cuddly, playful, a rascal and very curious. Wherever I was, Mars wasn't far away and he spent many cuddly hours on my lap. I am stunned and incredibly sad. My heart is broken and I am crushed 🖤
