#AI, #AIEthics and AI Regulation, (Space) #Tech and generally the state of things. Also I write articles about stuff. My own views, obviously. Mistake Not My Current State Of Joshing Gentle Peevishness ..
The stupidest of all economic takes right now is "but interest rates were 15% back in the days". They were, but house prices "back in the days" were up to 10x lower compared to average income.
What is worse, the idiotic boosting of buy-to-let has dragged renters into the crisis, too.
This is btw what you are shown when signing up to #Threads. Seems they are pretty serious about it. (no, I have no intention to switch to threads) #fediverse
Those who say that what is happening with #putin and #prigozhin in #russia is some kind of 4D chess forget that from everything we have seen of #prigozhin , it's more likely he has just completly lost his marbles. Utter madness often looks like a conspiracy.
While the British high speed rail debacle takes its course, the media has discovered that #HS2 was actually never the pride of British engineering we were told it is, but a EU plot all along.
You think this is satire, I tell you it is not, it's The Express.
In other news, Donald #Trump's legal team has proposed a trial date for his Washington DC case.. wait for it: April 2026.
Besides the enormous amount of evidence against him to review, his lawyers cite his busy schedule and as proof have attached documents from all his various upcoming trials.
So here is just my very personal view: I joined #Mastodon last year because #Twitter had become hell.
I wanted to delete Twitter, but I still have a Twitter account, not because of my "outreach" but because I want to follow and interact with certain people.
Now many of those have also a #Threads account, almost all in fact. I didn't want a Meta/Threads account, but that's why I also have one now.
If Threads federates with the Fediverse, I could have my account here, not being tracked into oblivion but still follow and interact with those people. I could delete my Twitter and Threads account, finally.
That'd be perfect.
And maybe - just maybe - if they see and follow me here, some of them, not all, might even quit Threads and come to Mastodon, which would be easy for them, thanks to account migration.
Imagine going for a long hike and deliberately being totally offline for a day and when you come home Boris Johnson has resigned and Donald Trump has been indicted on 37 counts.
Meanwhile people in the Artificial Inteligence (yes, they spell it with one "L") subreddit, where many were convinced that "AI superintelligence" is just a matter of one or two more training cycles, are now complaining that ChatGPT gets dumber every day.
This effect was widely expected, but instead they are invariably blame wokism, Biden or people like me.
Meanwhile over at the website formerly known as #Twitter, advertisers - according to a WSJ report - have received emails threatening them to spend more money .. or suffer the consequences.
Talking about the #BoE. I remember being in a meeting with some people from the Bank of England in 2016, a few months after the #Brexit referendum (related to a software project).
At some point I made a joke and said "You are probably busy with mitigating Brexit now.."
The answer was: "We will need 1000 people for 10 years to even calculate the downside of Brexit. And then we still have no idea how to mitigate it."
