Senior designers, how do you learn?
With years of experience under your belt, what do you do to upskill, and get better at your job?
kjoo, If you want to drive someone crazy, do not, never ever , use the normal keyboard layout. Especially when it comes to passwords. Use something weird, like alphabetically sorted characters. 😵💫
core_, The #ProtonMail app (beta) for macOS feels like an alien. Settings are not accessible by menu, “cmd-n” does not open a new message window, messages aren’t in a window, but kind of an overlay covering the entire UI. I fail to see the advantage over the web app. #UserExperience @protonprivacy
amadeus, I manage my #tasks in #thunderbird with #baikal and #caldav as the backend and the #userexperience in Thunderbird is rough. I am thinking of switching to plain #markdown and #git to make managing my tasks more enjoyable.
slackline, @amadeus Emacs' Org-mode Agenda is pretty neat, there are also frameworks like Getting Things Done implemented in Org-mode
amadeus, @slackline This looks super interesting. Powerful. Will have a closer look. Thanks for sharing! 🙌
shom, I'm legit super impressed with the @Discourse tutorial with discobot! It's very well executed in orienting the user with the software and features and simulating interactions. Much better than the popping up of bubbles in different parts of the interface while you're just trying to navigate (they do that too, not a fan but I get why). Good work Discourse team!
aeveltstra, I absolutely, passionately, hate GUIs in which everything bounces around, spins, and whirs. Hold still already. Too much visual load. Everything screaming for attention at once, so I can't focus on anything.
Some games do this. Please stop. I've already decided to play. No need to jump around to get me to interact.
Please use motion sparingly and judiciously.

oliverw, I'll be speaking about "The #UserExperience of #SpatialComputing; from the brief basics to the #AppleVisionPro - how we’ve been preparing and #prototyping for the Apple Vision Pro" on Thursday night at CocoaHeads Sydney. https://www.meetup.com/en-AU/sydneycocoaheads/events/293611678/
ewdocparris, The Apple VisionOS will be the first OS that can tell EXACTLY what features on a web page your eyes are drawn to, in what order, and for how long they linger. It is a user testing dream come true.
If someone isn't making that app, it won't take long.

aeveltstra, @nianticlabs disapproves of my name. They claim "something went wrong". Yea: it's their shitty programming. #UserExperience #Usability #Accessibility #SelfCentered

Tide Pods, Amazon Prime and the Super Bowl understood the concept of “experience economy”, aka figuring out what the user want to accomplish, taking account the social context of it, and, delivering it (pun intended, hahaha).

aeveltstra, Interesting #userexperience concerning @Mastodon ios client message filters and notifications: the client will filter messages according to filters set using the web app (it has yet to gain the ability to do so itself), but still will send a notification to the ios notification system, displaying the message content that doesn't get displayed by the client. Hey, @Gargron , maybe something to have someone look at?

remixtures, Portuguese #User #UserExperience #UX #UserResearch #AI: "Anthropomorphism, the inclination to ascribe humanlike qualities to machines, has long been used to manufacture a sense of connectedness between people and technology. We—people—remained users. But if AI is now a thought partner, then what are we?
Well, at least for now,we’re not likely to get rid of “user.” But we could intentionally default to more precise terms, like “patients” in health care or “students” in educational tech or “readers” when we’re building new media companies. That would help us understand these relationships more accurately. In gaming, for instance, users are typically called “players,” a word that acknowledges their participation and even pleasure in their relationships with the technology. On an airplane, customers are often called “passengers” or “travelers,” evoking a spirit of hospitality as they’re barreled through the skies. If companies are more specific about the people—and, now, AI—they’re building for rather than casually abstracting everything into the idea of “users,” perhaps our relationship with this technology will feel less manufactured, and it will be easier to accept that we’re inevitably going to exist in tandem." https://www.technologyreview.com/2024/04/19/1090872/ai-users-people-terms/
