If you were so inclined you could get a copy of 'The Haunted Tea Set & Other Stories' via Smashwords right now: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/1502444

Or preorder it at various non-Amazon places for next week: https://books2read.com/b/HauntedTeaSet

Did you have a good holiday? I have been feeling kind of blah and not reading too much lately but I did manage to finish this short story about strange goings on in the aftermath of a hurricane. My review of Dead Cats of Civilization is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2023/12/dead-cats-of-civilization-by-douglas.html

@Well_Worth_A_Read @bookstodon @horrorbooks the book I'm talking about is an author on here so I'm not going to share the name, and it's interesting, but just some parts are like... what?? I think the problem is the last few science fiction books I read are SO GOOD that I have high expectations! I switched to a cozy mystery last night because my expectations are a lot lower for that genre. So far it's a fun read!

@Enema_Cowboy @Well_Worth_A_Read @bookstodon @horrorbooks I read a couple of his books, but not that one. It's really irritating when you read something you know a lot about and the writer didn't do enough research!

I’ve started to read the new @UncannyMagazine issue, and it really starts with a bang, @Catvalente “Can You Hear Me Now?” This is such a great story about Consumerist culture and feminity as performance. And it’s really scary and the neediness of the voice speaking really sucks you into the void.
You can read it here, but I recommend to buy the whole issue.

BoneParade,

Hi there! Bone Parade is open for submissions through October 15th! We only need one more story for the next issue. Please send us your weird and wonderful genre-bending stories! We're also kind of in the mood for a cozy existential crisis, if that exists?

Implied Space: Trick or Treat

What do I do when I'm depressed? I write my about aliens and disaffected seminarians, and I post a picture of the fountain down my breezeway upon which I based a story recently submitted. A woman becomes convinced the fountain is her father ordering her to do something terrible. I describe the fountain in such lurid detail and yesterday, I noticed how unimpressive it is. But the imagination rules. 😂 I did try to add a filter that helps it look sinister. lols.

Arthur Machen’s story ‘N’, which is largely a rambling, meandering chat between three aul’ fellas reminiscing about the London of days gone by, made me acutely nostalgic myself for my London days.

Menacing Bucks
on Campus

Be aware that MAGA Bucks have been seen on campus, they are worthless tender, except in the most foul nether regions of The Dank Dimension of Misinformation and The Cursedly Confused. You couldn’t buy your way out of the deepest holes of Tartarus, let alone purchase New York City real estate. An Exorcism Ritual to expel all MAGA Bucks and those intentionally spreading them will commence at Midnight.

A dark print based on Trump's mugshot is at the centre of this composition. Other elements in black are from a Victorian illustration of a woman with her arms in the air and shouting, as a strange creature enters the window of the parlour. The rest of the composition is made up of asemic writing in aged colours that resemble old paper and antique mono-green tinted photographs.
