9to5linux, to archlinux Immutable Distro blendOS 4 Officially Released, Now a Fully Declarative #ArchLinux Remix https://9to5linux.com/immutable-distro-blendos-4-officially-released-now-fully-declarative
Unable to run TabbyML with GPU on NixOS or Docker (solved on docker!)
TabbyML is a self-hosted code assistant. I have been unsuccessful at running it using my Nvidia GPU. There’s two ways I’ve tried to deploy this....
itsfoss, to linux Debian 13 “Trixie” to feature different /tmp behavior.
omgubuntu, (edited ) to linuxmint Linux Mint 22 will hide unverified Flatpaks in the Software Manager app by default. Users will be able to choose to see and install them, albeit with warnings - https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/06/linux-mint-will-hide-unverified-flatpaks #linuxmint #flatpak
TritTriton, @omgubuntu Does it mean that @Vivaldi Flatpak will be hidden? It’s unofficial, but made by an employee. @ruario
Would the BCM5719 open-source firmware work on regular computers? (github.com)
Hello,...
Gaming vs Regular Distros
TL;DR: Is there really a performance benefit to a gaming distro over a regular distro? Or is it more of a “this is the least work” to get setup?...
lordvalor, to linux Spanish
risturiz, Spanish @lordvalor welcome to the party :catjam:
itsfoss, to linux Ubuntu Core 24 has been introduced with improvements for AI use cases!
Setting up a swap file on top of using swap-to-zram for Hibernation purposes? (Fedora 40)
So here’s my situation:...
popey, to ubuntu ~ Twenty years ago, I used Kino on BrownBuntu to capture our honeymoon video footage from the Maldives using a Sony Handycam. I should probably edit that video at some point...
This screenshot is from March 2005.
frd, @popey I used it a lot to capture footage from my Panasonic AG-DVX100B (first camcorder to shoot in 24fps).
Wireguard self hosting - Some tricks I don't see mentioned in too many tutorials
I just finished setting up my Wireguard VPN “server”. In this post I want to spread some information, I could’ve found useful but which didn’t come up in most of the Wireguard tutorials....
Linux admin with 20 years experience, looking for "beginner" distro [Solved, the real beginner distro was the Debian I've used along the way]
I’m over tinkering with my OS. So I’m looking for a distro that “just works” out of the box for my laptop. Also I want to test an “easy” distro I can install for my grandpa....
kzimmermann, to FreeBSD Updating #FreeBSD to 14.1-RELEASE in the laptop
Kernel and base already updated, now running pkg to finish off the job :)
kzimmermann, And we're done! #FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE is working great here, smooth transition. And it looks like ungoogled-chromium made its way back into the repos again, so I think I'll be able to work with it!
Not sure why the fetch shows it still in 14.0, though.
gamingonlinux, to linux Steampunk brotato-like auto-shooter Airships: Lost Flotilla demo expanded - get an exclusive airship https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/06/steampunk-auto-shooter-airships-lost-flotilla-demo-expanded-get-an-exclusive-airship/
kdedude, @gamingonlinux Airships is remakably fun and replayable, even in the demo. Good tip, thanks Liam.
skerit, to linux After making my #framework laptop my daily driver, I still had to fix all the #electron applications looking like crap under #wayland (when using fractional scaling).
So another good reason to make a blog post, I guess? :ablobcathappypaws:
Slack, Discord, Spotify, Obsidian, VS-Code, ... now they all look good using 1.25x scaling.

tournesol, to linux Any recommandation for a dotfile manager ?
Triedchezmoi
but I kind of don’t like how it’s naming the files (I’m like that)
AntoineD, J’utilise Stow depuis des années, j’ai jamais cherché autre chose depuis.
Du coup j’ai un depot git privé avec mes dotfiles.
Voilà l’article qui m’a fait découvrir l’outil :

tournesol, @AntoineD merci ! Je vais y jeter un oeil ❤️
RL_Dane, (edited ) to FreeBSD Hey #FreeBSD peeps,
I'm trying to figure out what GELI stands for. (Just because it's such a cute name, I guess? lol)
I've deduced that it's GEOM_ELI (https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=geli&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+14.1-RELEASE+and+Ports&arch=default&format=html), but what's ELI?
(Also, I kinda wish #BSD had
man -K
(full text search). I need to write a todo to make my own implementation)[[Update in reply]]
RL_Dane, Ha! I'll post an update to the original if he responds. :D
RL_Dane, Pawel responded :D
=====
Hello:)You are correct „G” stands for GEOM. The rest is to be discovered (it doesn’t stand for Encryption Layer Interface). It’s been twenty years and I still didn’t get the right answer:)

Thunderbird setzt unter der selbst erstellten E-Mail-Signatur einen Doppelstrich. Diesen Doppelstrich oder auch Separator genannt, werde ich in diesem Artikel dauerhaft entfernen.

woltiv, @gamingonlinux This game is fantastic, thanks for posting it!
gbraad, (edited ) to linux Reflection... 20 years ago Bill Riemers offered a WSL before #WSL was a thing; called #coLinux.
I maintained images for Fedora, CentOS and OpenSUSE (for mono):
https://github.com/gbraad-fedora/colinux-images
which were 'officially' available for use with coLinux:
http://colinux.org and https://sourceforge.net/projects/colinux/files/Images%202.6.x%20Fedora/
Automating the image generation taught me a lot about how Linux was structured and their dependencies.
gbraad, Got to this as #Microsoft's #WSL does not solve the issue with kernel modules;
#coLinux did; and I repackaged the modules as an RPM for each release. WSL could even do this by mounting the modules path into the tree.
Two 4k external monitors through a docking station - Why is this seemingly effortless for Windows but basically impossible for Linux?
I’ve ran into this situation multiple times at my current and previous jobs. I really want to avoid Windows and use something better, but I can’t live without two external monitors....
RL_Dane, to FreeBSD New(-to-me) laptop is in!
Looking forward to putting it through its paces.
This <$100 thing might be the most performant machine I own. 😆
Also, I've been experimenting a bit with #NomadBSD lately. It's not quite as polished as a Linux distro, but it's mighty nice! (Persistent #FreeBSD-based boot USB image, can do UFS or ZFS and optionally encrypt)
RL_Dane, That's funny, Chewie was my alter ago when I first started getting back into Linux 5 years go (and the Falcon was my ship, er, daily-driver laptop).
RL_Dane, Ha, that would be great. No, it's "just" a Thinkpad X260. Pretty sweet little machine for $65 shipped!
I think I'm going for "Intrepid," as in the (second, TNG/Voyager-era) U.S.S. Intrepid.
CentOS Stream & Hyperscale SIG showcase (aka. "how to make Enterprise Linux suck less") (www.youtube.com)
I found the talk really interesting, especially how CentOS-Stream means SIGs can fork the hell out of it....
Looking to get into android development
I want to start learning android dev and I understand that I’ll need the android sdk and cli tools. I want to try it in a kvm because even though it is open source, I would like to keep it separate from my main system. Which distro and vm settings do you suggest I use? Any other tips or your experience with android development...
