The basic principle of a retaining wall is that the wall's depth should be roughly the same as its height. So a 1m high wall extends back 1m into whatever it is retaining.

Today on day 5 of my trip to #OuterHebrides#Scotland was a day to never forget. I had booked a tour to #StKilda, a formerly inhabited archipelago of small islands 70 km into the Atlantic. And although not cheap, it’s worth every penny. Just. Simply. Breathtaking. The birdlife is insane, their numbers unbelievable. 25% of the world’s #gannets (Jan-van-gent) breed here, as well as 300,000 puffins, 80,000 fulmar (Noordse stormvogel) etc etc
#NC500, your poison has worked. I'm not going to cycle in #Scotland this summer. For the first time in 20 years I just don't feel any longing to see Scotland this summer.
