kristiedegaris, (edited ) Drystone today in a rather lush garden. Working on a retaining wall built from Yorkshire sandstone. Building on a curve with really straight edged stone is always a challenge. As is my mosquito/midge allergy during Scottish summers.
The basic principle of a retaining wall is that the wall's depth should be roughly the same as its height. So a 1m high wall extends back 1m into whatever it is retaining.
Indyposterboy, Whether or not you support independence for Scotland, you must surely support the principle of democratic choice. In which case every person in Scotland meeting a prospective MP or their campaigners from whichever party must ask them these three simple questions.
- Is the union voluntary?
- Can Scotland leave?
- How does Scotland leave if it wants to?

Indyposterboy, @Theriac para 5: it’s what’s been going on, until about 6 or 7 years ago when the SNP took their foot off the pedal. Now they’re in neutral and need to get back in gear.
Theriac, Except we have the added urgency of 2 parties trying on "patriotism", one out going and one hoping to be incoming.
Labour stiffed devolution once already in 1979, I don't trust them not to do it again - especially under Starmer.
Snoro, Nature-friendly farming keeping farmers in the green
‘The Impact of Extreme Weather on Scottish Agriculture’ commissioned by WWF Scotland shows that increased prolonged periods of hot, dry weather dramatically risk the profitability of Scottish farms, but by adopting nature-friendly farming practices this can be avoided

Indyposterboy, Two MPs who represent English constituencies will go head-to-head in ITV's 'UK' GE24 debate.
No-one representing Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland is allowed to take part.

simon_brooke,
muminitaly, @simon_brooke Just asked husband - yes true. Behind closed doors.
simon_brooke, Destroying the planet we live on -- the only planet we can live on -- is of course totally legal and even supported and subsidised by governments around the world (including #Scotland's).
But PROTESTING against destroying the planet? That's illegal. That's very, very illegal. Don't even think about doing that.
TomSwirly, @SpaceJellyfish @simon_brooke You are proposing exactly the same strategy that environmentalists have been doing for the last 60 years, a strategy that has utterly and completely failed.
Civil disobedience has generations of success - it got women the vote, and got civil rights for people of color.
I don't think it's too much, I think it's not enough.

TomSwirly, Imagine this was an action movie, where a tiny number of psychopaths were systematically destroying the Earth, not even for good and services, but simply to win a meaningless numerical game called The Money. These psychopaths control pretty well everything, so anyone opposing them gets crushed in horrible ways.
Is "starting an information portal on the web" really going to be what defeats these incredibly powerful villains?

pkuipersmunneke, Dutch Today on day 5 of my trip to #OuterHebrides #Scotland was a day to never forget. I had booked a tour to #StKilda, a formerly inhabited archipelago of small islands 70 km into the Atlantic. And although not cheap, it’s worth every penny. Just. Simply. Breathtaking. The birdlife is insane, their numbers unbelievable. 25% of the world’s #gannets (Jan-van-gent) breed here, as well as 300,000 puffins, 80,000 fulmar (Noordse stormvogel) etc etc

Indyposterboy, So David Cameron has vetoed devolved Rockall fishing agreement between Scotland and Ireland. There have been enough warnings about this - Westminster is, and will continue to be, in the business of gradually stripping more and more devolved powers from Scotland until they can close Holyrood down. It's independence or becoming a council area of England. #Scotland #IndependenceIsNormal #ge2024
