Good morning, afternoon, night, whatever works for you! It's #BandcampFriday and it's time for me to start a way-too-long thread about #music I produce and music I enjoy!
First up, we have my own album from last year, 51 Miles from Nowhere. This album involves some of the best musicians I've ever worked with. It's filled with raw energy, moody lyrics, and fuzzy guitar.
If you buy the LP, it comes with a copy of the Guidebook to Nowhere (a zine I made set within the fictional Deathrayverse filled with cryptids, an evil corporation, and general creepy vibes).
51 Miles from Nowhere is one of my favorite pieces I've ever released, and I hope you listen to it. My favorite reviews are "I'm not sure I like it" and "It's interesting." (there are also positive reviews, these are just my favorite).
After that we have another #AnalogRevolution artist, Red Hot Empty. We've just released a limited edition vinyl copy of their debut album, Corridors, with their first ever live set on the back. It's a great record, and I'm proud to have engineered it. Heavy, trashy, angry punk with massive political undertones.
When I first heard them, I knew I wanted to work with them. The punk kid in me screamed that I needed to get their stuff out the best that I could, and they absolutely deserve it.
I’m listening to the latest #AnalogRevolution#vinyl release, literally hot off the record press. SMALL is an Atlanta punk act. Not as angry as Red Hot Empty, but equally energetic. We’re releasing their album Decathexis on vinyl with a live side on the back. It’s killer. It’s really killer. I’m really excited to share it with y’all.
I first saw SMALL when we played a show with them. One from Analog Revolution’s “Put On A Show” series. I believe that one is up on New Ellijay Television. Anyway. They blew me away. The strange of Sam, the front woman, was astonishing.
Sloppy, powerful, kinda pervy? It’s a blast. I’ll share a link when we have it ready for purchase. This is part of the super limited Lightning Limited series with screen printed jackets, limited to 100 units. These won’t last.
I'm in this coffee shop because the one I run is closed for renovations, and when it reopens it will be a book/record/coffee store.
In spite of the fact that I haven't lived in this city for over a decade, and I have a coffee shop of my own now, the barista here still knew me by name and reputation, and knew my order from memory.
It's #BandcampFriday and I'm going to do some shameless self-promotion by sharing my albums/singles available now and comments on each one.
Kicking if off, 51 Miles From Nowhere. This is one of my favorite albums I've done, and I did it with some of the best musicians I've ever worked with. This crew, the Implements of Destruction, really know how to lay it down.
The vinyl comes with a cool zine that I typed on an electric typewriter and collaged pictures for. It's really one of the most fun projects I've had in awhile. We pressed it with Physical Music Products, the vinyl record company I'm now working at part time. @djsundog@connor_dylan@TaxDan are the Implements of Destruction, and they absolutely killed it.
@ajroach42 really made it possible. It's phenomenal, and, if you aren't able to purchase it, that's cool! Feel free to stream it for free! I'd appreciate it if you shared it, though.
Continuing this #BandcampFriday thread of shameless self promotion, the latest music I released with #AnalogRevolution. It's a public domain project I've been excited about for awhile. I recorded six songs for it from the public domain (one if which being a medley I arranged of multiple songs by the same artist). It's this month's CassettesFor.Me release, and it's really killer.
I need to look for work, but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for at this point. My current day job is Data/Reporting Analyst. I'm good at it. I specialize in BI tools, mostly Power BI at this point, but they're all pretty similar.
My gay job is Governance Lead for the Pride group at the day job. Project planning and mapping, goal tracking and setting, and working with the chair and vice chair to implement high-level projects.
Y'all know a lot of my side work as well. I'm a musician, audio engineer, and I run #AnalogRevolution with @ajroach42 . I build relationships with artists and suppliers, and handle the day-to-day of CassettesFor.Me and Analog planning, working with a small team.
So. Very left-brain right-brain. My resume includes everything from Data Analyst to Events Manager to Supervisor to Guitar Instructor/Studio Manager. I suppose I need to see what opportunities are out there. Mostly looking for remote in the US.
Anyway.
I need a change, but don't know what direction I need to go in.
I have a new vinyl release from Analog Revolution in hand
It's part of a new series we're doing in partnership with the pressing plant, Physical Music Products. We're doing 10 releases, all with the same center labels, but limited to 100 units each, and we're screen printing jackets in house.
The first one is Red Hot Empty, which is appropriate as that was the first cassette we released under my tenure with Analog. We'll get some jackets printed soon so we can get product photos, then they'll be up for sale! Super limited, but very fun
This is pretty big news for me & my friends. These are all still demos, but I have all 11 tracks for This Cassette Kills Fascists laid out!
:parrot_beer:
Listen to This Cassette Kills Fascists, an album by #ArtFed
I have a whole to-do list after listening to it on repeat. 😅
This will fit on one side of the cassette, which leaves Side B free for all of the original tracks without the dialogue and my screwing them up, lol. The intention is for people to make mixtapes and remixes of any and everything on the album.
The whole album will be releaded under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 creative commons license to enable this.
Just recorded the first track of a public domain project we're doing with #AnalogRevolution . It'll be out sometime early next year. This is a casual project for us, so I don't want to promise tight deadlines, but it's something fun I'm looking forward to working on more. This year we get sheet music/published music as late as 1928. I'm sure we'll do plenty of stuff with it, musically and otherwise. We love public domain (and I think it should absolutely be expanded).
This is the first year we're doing this project, and, if people are receptive and we enjoy the work, we may do more in the future. Since it's the first iteration, I'm opening myself up to anything 1928 or prior to record, and I have several ideas as it is.
I just did Bessie Smith's "Devil's Gonna Git You," and I plan on doing W.C Handy's "St. Louis Blues," "Lectric Chair Blues" by Blind Lemon Jefferson, "See That My Grave is Kept Clean" also by Blind Lemon (and the lyrics written online are all wrong), and several others.
Do y'all have any early 20th Century songs you'd be interested in hearing?
Eli Pop performs dreamy surfy-psychedelic. It’s great music to put on and vibe to. I just picked up the records today. All pre-orders will ship tomorrow. Everyone else will start Monday.
This may very well be the last Bandcamp Friday as we know it. Bandcamp is changing ownership, and Songtradr has already done some kinda shady shit like basically ignoring the union.
BUT. Neither Epic nor Songtradr get a cut of the income artists receive today! So, support artists.
As you likely know (because I post about it all the time), I run a label with @ajroach42 called Analog Revolution. Any #AnalogRevolution artists will have their physical media available through our website as well, and I'll link that in addition to Bandcamp.
Also, be sure to check out Andrew's Bandcamp Friday thread. There will be a lot of duplicate entries, but he has wonderful things to say and a few artists I wouldn't think to include.
I imagine I'll still share bandcamp artists, but, at least for the purchase of physical goods, I will link to https://analogrevolution.com for our artists. We don't have a digital music store set up on our own website yet. That's in the cards, but won't be up by tomorrow.
What are your thoughts? Will you be purchasing through Bandcamp tomorrow? They won't get a share of the revenue at least.
Hey you neon raccoons! Do you review music? Do you know someone who does? Do you run a record store, coffee shop, book store, or what have you?
I run a record label ( #AnalogRevolution ) with @ajroach42 ! We have press kits. We have music. We would love to talk to you more about it.
We mostly work with independent artists in various sub-genres of rock. Some lo-fi, some pop-punk, some psychedelic. I’d love to talk to you more about it and get you some music in hand (physical media in a digital age!).
Packaging for our community entertainment center was finalized today.
These are some photos of the boxes.
The boxes are upcycled from the packaging for the computers we're using as the basis for the project (and will be labeled as such, this kind of re-use is absolutely the way to deal with packaging waste, and should be celebrated imo.)
at its heart, the Community Entertainment System is an open source set top box running on an x86 HDMI-stick computer, with a remote and basic game controller support. It is configured to display media from #newellijaytelevision and #AnalogRevolution and mountaintown radio and a collection of open licensed podcasts.
As other indie networks come online (jokerjokertv in Athens, for example) they will get added automatically. (It's all RSS based!)
The software is all open, and end users are welcome to customize it to their needs. There will be a simple image available to reset to factory, and a secure update mechanism, so we can ship new features etc.

Previous roles include:

Supervisor
