An absolute collapse of the legitimacy of the supreme court. Now the rule of law is what fascist (theocrat aka religious autocrats aka nazis) say it is.

Americans know there is no immunity from prosecution for crimes of former .
Americans know it is wrong to deny women healthcare by order of the state.
Americans know that an insurrectionist can not hold office.

First, they turned the flag upside down, and then they turned the rule of law upside down. -SkyKiss

For the Women Who Accused the Trump Campaign of Harassment, It’s Been More Harassment. Report by Marilyn W. Thompson

Trump is well known for publicly bullying his political rivals, but the former president’s campaign has also used similar tactics to launch private, relentless attacks against some of its own workers.

A federal magistrate judge has ordered the campaign to produce by May 31 a list of all discrimination and harassment complaints made during Trump's 2016 and 2020 presidential runs, allegations that the campaign initially tried to keep confidential through rigorously enforced NDAs. Last year, a federal judge freed 422 employees of the 2016 campaign from confidentiality agreements in a class-action lawsuit brought by Denson, a major crack in the campaign's strategy.

Alito continues his anti-judicial white power reign of terror and completely gets the law wrong. Alito is a grave danger to the nation and the rule of law.

So patently unconstitutional that they should trigger immediate arrests of for judicial insurrection.

The very notion that political parties have any control over elections or districting is what is actually unconstitutional.

This leapt out to me. The Supreme Court has previously said that even if partisan gerrymandering violates the Constitution, federal courts can't stop it.

Today, the Supreme Court declared that partisan gerrymandering does not violate the Constitution. That is very different!

Maga republican fascist judges are bad.
Things the Courts will say just off the top of my head:

*No right to sexual freedom, arresting queer people is ok

*Schools can ban books if they want

*Students have no speech rights, teachers should rule with iron fists

*No right to marry in our history/traditions

*Our libel laws are too strict, Republicans can sue the NYTimes

*No right to control your body, states may ban contraceptives at will

*Fetuses are persons under the law and women are incubators.

We do not want republican criminals in office.

Since we now know Alito was flying his flag upside down at the time, let’s review one of the plans the coup plotters had involving him.

This interview by criminal defendant Powell is interesting. It suggests that the purpose of the insurrection was to DELAY the electoral college certification to give #Alito time to intervene on this legal challenge. But, Powell says they didn’t anticipate Pelosi reconvening Congress that day.

The two Eastman was counting on for the insurrection were Thomas (atop the 11th circuit where they filed a lawsuit in Georgia) and Alito (atop the 5th circuit where they filed a lawsuit in Texas). That’s according to under-oath testimony from Pence’s lawyer. 2/

On the one hand, the Supreme Court has not been favorable, overall, to Trump's reelection. In 2020, they threw out a case brought by Republicans to have four Democratic states ejected from the election, for example.

But on the other hand, now with two justices' wives taking public actions to support Trump's reelection, it's really hard to take the idea of impartiality seriously. If you're the spouse of a justice, and if you took SCOTUS's work seriously, you'd sit it out. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/16/us/justice-alito-upside-down-flag.html

The spouse of one Supreme Court justice was actively conspiring with Mark Meadows to overturn the results of the 2020 election, while another Supreme Court justice was flying the American flag upside down to show his solidarity with the Big Lie.

Now they're sitting on the DC Felony Trial to buy Trump and his acolytes more time to steal the next election.

America is at a crossroads.

We either turn a blind eye to #scotus reign of corruption, or we take this country back at the ballot box and restore rule of law.

In a remarkable move, Trump-appointed judge Aileen Cannon vacated (cancelled) the May 20th trial date in Donald Trump's stolen classified documents/obstruction of justice/Espionage case in Florida, and she announced that she will be setting no trial date. This is particularly outrageous given that Trump's own lawyers had previously suggested an August trial date.

Cannon's conduct is reminiscent of some of the evidence in Trump's New York case: David Pecker, head of Enquirer tabloid magazine, was involved in a crooked scheme with Trump to catch and kill damaging stories to help the criminal in the 2016 election. Now, it sure looks like Judge Cannon is Catching and Killing Trump's Espionage case, which undoubtedly will help Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Regarding Judge Cannon's pro-Trump bias, the recusal cup runneth over. Hopefully, Special Counsel Jack Smith agrees, and finally files a motion to REMOVE Judge Aileen "Pecker" Cannon from presiding over Trump's Florida prosecution.

Description of the bias and corruption of Eileen Cannon in Donald's Espionage crimes case in Florida. She canceled the trial date.

skykiss, (edited )
@skykiss@sfba.social avatar

In the federal criminal trial for crimes under the Espionage Act Indictments in United States of America v. Donald Trump it's 37 felony counts against Trump include willfully retaining national defense information in violation of the Espionage Act, making false statements, obstructing justice, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

How I see Cannons conduct: I'm postponing this trial indefinitely because there are many issues that need to be resolved that I can resolve, but won't.

Cannon's impartiality can be reasonably questioned, the standard for removal.

Indigenous leaders want to protect whales by granting them legal personhood

"What we're trying to achieve here is to provide whales with certain rights," Takoko told Morning Edition. I was able to attend part of an AWI webinar today re “Are We Effective Human Lie Detectors?” and the answer is no. Even so called experts (police officers, detectives, psychologists, lawyers, etc.) have only a 50/50 chance of correctly determining if someone is lying or not. And some people are better liars and appear more credible than nervous truth tellers. A good reminder why outside corroboration or contemporaneous documentation is so important in all investigations.

The Florida Supreme Court did allow a proposed amendment to protect abortion to go on the Florida ballot.

But the decision was very close: 4-3.

And three of those four went out of their way to condemn abortion

But at least they realized that it would be too obviously political to reject the amendment on the grounds the summary was misleading or the text was ambiguous

Trump told Bob Woodward he knew in February that COVID-19 was 'deadly stuff' but wanted to 'play it down'

“You just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed, and so that’s a very tricky one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flu.” -dt

dt told reporters at the White House on Feb. 27: "This is a flu. This is like a flu."

Arguably “Negligent Homicide” is a legal term irt the unlawful killing of another person through gross negligence or without malice.

The response to the COVID-19 pandemic by criminal defendant Donald’s administration has been a topic of significant outrage. The administration’s response was deceptive, slow, inadequate, citing issues such as testing availability, communication of risk, and coordination with states.

The whitewashing of what Donald Trump did during the pandemic is stunning.
In fact, 400,000 Americans were confirmed dead of COVID-19 during the Trump administration—with the estimated undercount at that point being an additional 75,000.
The next 200,000 to die died because of negligent practices Trump pushed while in office and before President Biden could do anything about it.
Trump rhetoric continued to spur deaths thereafter. Negligent homicide.
