Here's an IBM s/360 at the Computer History Museum, from some months ago; it was so very fun to see how data storage has evolved!

ok ok, it's true that my lab no longer has a LTO drive of any generation, but I still want one… LTO5 should be sufficient to backup a couple hundred terabytes right?

Hey @ironicbadger, @popey, & other users: what tools and processes do you use to back up your ZFS-based storage? Like most homelabers, I have a mix of file types and databases that I need to account for.

Perfect Media Server is officially Nixified.

Now, to figure out what to put into a video script (or not) about it and/or whether to flake this up before ‘release’.

Sigh. So copying and pasting commands from the internet doesn't solve my problem. This means I'm going to have to actually try and /understand/ what's wrong. I didn't sign up for this.

It's kinda mesmerizing watching the core speeds on one of the i7-12700Ts in the Cluster (the one that runs Tiggi.es presently) dynamically shift cores anywhere from 1400Mhz to 4.62GHz quickly, and on an as-needed basis. The low base speed saves energy, but it'll instantly pop cores up to speeds within its thermal/power limit envelope, so for lightly-threaded workloads, it can perform as well as beefier chips.

Screen grab of "watch -n0 "grep Hz /proc/cpuinfo" off of a Proxmox node. 20 logical CPU cores with a base of 1400MHz flickering up to as high as 4.62GHz per core as processes require it.

Spent much of today rewiring my with a new Unifi PDU Pro, moving new hard drives around that finished their initial burn-in ritual whilst I was away last week.

Also installed a new 8 port KVM switch to sit in front of PiKVM.

I filmed it but now I gotta edit the darned thing.

I was puzzling how to mount my new quite chonky Zyxel switch in my lack rack as there’s no way a few bolts in the front legs will hold it.

The answer of course is lots of cable ties.

The whole thing needs reorganising, but this solution isn’t going anywhere. 😆

A very messy ikea table containing network including a switch cable tied in place

U. anders aussehen?

So I'm a bit baffled by what's happening on my home server. I've got a software-RAID with 4 disks (RAID 10 with 4TB disks as /heb/sda mounted as ~/data). I've used about 17% (df -h) but multiple commands give a "disk is full" error. Most weird one is the inode count of 0 0 (df -hi).

Anyone in the community who has any idea what might be the issue? Updates will be reactions to this thread.

Maybe my friend @mmeier has any suggestions? Magic block? Partition table?

What happens when you colocate some of your HomeLab servers into a Data Center? And a better question, is it still called a HomeLab?

I made it and it went better than expected.

I have a single-node setup with various services in containers and a VM. For example, https://blog.randomplace.online/ is hosted there. I needed a build machine to build a work project, so I decided to spin up a new VM.

I got 10 minutes of build time and my server didn't die during the build. You can see the CPU load of two builds. There is plenty compute power left to serve my blog for that one visitor per month. Also, the Home Assistant VM was not affected.

Need to mention that the node is an PN41 with 4-core Celeron N5100 and 16GB of RAM.

I have a problem where it looks like id's in the webgui are wrong.
If I connect to the command prompt it connects to the wrong vm.

Anybody see that problem before?
And know what to do perhaps?
Happens on vm's without kvm-client running

Alright, home labbers and work from home techies. It's time for a cable modem upgrade. I have Spectrum as my provider, up to 1 gig down / 35 up. (From my current of 60 up!).... Recommendations?

My journey started a month ago. I moved all my all my containers and VM from my NAS to a testing MiniPC with Proxmox.

This test was very positive, so I decided to move to a new server. I'm using a cluster to move my LXCs and VMs. I'm very impressed by how simple the process is for a newbie like me. I just need to remove my snapshots before.

Keep learning in my journey! 😊
